I purchased a Groupon for a Getaway for just under 400 bucks! The expiration of the Groupon was December 13th, on December 13th the couple that was to join us broke up, obviously beyond my control. So I immediately went online to Groupon FAQS to see how I obtain a refund. I followed all instructions, basically it seemed quite simple, from my app I follow a series of links to cancel and be refunded but when you get to the final page there was nothing! No ability to cancel no advice just took me straight to my voucher.
So I called, there was a 2 hour wait time which would have taken my call about an hour past the office closing hours. So I again following the FAQ advice I emailed for the request. I was given a confirmation that the email would be addressed within 24 hours. So being a bit impatient I thought it be best to call in the am. 2 hour wait time again, fine I left a call back number and within 3 hours I was called back.
The first 2 people that passed me on were quite helpful and informative, the first women explained that the reason I may not have been able to do the refund myself on my app was it could be too close to the expiry date for it to work properly, didn't make a lot of sense but sure. The second lady understood exactly what I was needing, she tried to get the refund approved and was unable. I then spoke with her extremley rude supervisor.
This gentleman basically said that it was now expired but he would make the exception and give me Groupon Bucks, which is not what I need. I explained to him that I had tried to get the refund the day before unsuccessfully because the app was not allowing me to process the refund as it normally would...he explained that for Groupon Getaways it has to be done on the computer but they haven't listed that in the instructions or FAQS , but because of that fact he was going to make an exception and give me the credit regardless. So in other words had it been listed on the FAQS that the particular type of Groupon can only be refunded by myself on the computer not the app I would have been able to do that without bugging a soul.
He then said "look your voucher expired on the 13th and it's now the 14th that is black and white", regardless of me trying to get the refund within the appropriate time period.
To top it off they charged me 38.50 to refund me the Groupon bucks!!! I am absolutley crushed that the service was so terrible and that a refund requested within the alloted time period is not being honored this literally was preventable by having the appropriate information available to me. If I can cancel a normal Groupon on my app and have before, and the option being listed to refund the Getaway Groupon is available on the app but does not actually work they have to inform their customers that this action would have to be done on a computer.
