Tesco Returns and Refunds

Please find details regarding the return and refund policies for Tesco below. We encourage you to leave a comment regarding your experience requesting a return or refund from Tesco so others can benefit from what you learned.

Tesco Return Policy

Tesco wants their customers to be completely satisfied with items bought from their stores. Purchases, both online and in brick and mortar stores, may be returned if the item/s meet certain criteria.

Time Lines for Returns
Beauty products, over-the-counter medications, and perishable foods cannot be returned unless there is a serious issue, such as a product recall.

Books, computers, digital cameras/camcorders, digital photo frames, game consoles, GPS systems, hard drives, mobile phones, and USB devices must be returned within 14 days of purchase.

All other items purchased from Tesco need to be returned within 28 days of purchase.

Requesting Replacements for Damaged Items
For items that arrived damaged or in non-working condition, call Tesco's customer service to talk to their troubleshooting department. Some issues are easily fixed over the phone. If their help desk cannot fix the issue, they will arrange a refund, repair, or replacement.

The item needs to be in its original packaging with all accessories, instructions, labels, and tags. Customers have the choice of shipping the item to Tesco or driving to the nearest store. Tesco arranges courier service if the item did not arrive through the mail.

Delivery and Return Charges
Tesco pays for returns if the item is damaged or not working. Customers who return an item for some other reason must pay the cost of the return. To get delivery charges returned, customers have to return their entire order, not just one or two items from it.

Refund Options
Payments with a credit card are refunded to that card. Gift card purchases receive a refund through a check or credit to the gift card. Clubcard voucher payments are returned to a Clubcard balance or a check is issued. Clubcard points issued for the returned purchase are removed from the account.

I tries to return unwanted easter eggs to your knocknagoney store yesterday. They were purchased at a reduced price on 25th april. When I offered them to my daughter for the grand children she refused them and told me to return them to the store . I tried to do this yesterday but the refund was refused as they were classed as a "seasonal item". I was told that I was able to read exemptions on your web site returns policy. I can find no mention of exemption for seasonal items. Why do Tesco staff tell lies to their customers please and how do I get this matter resolved? They even spoke to a manager on the phone who confirmed what I had been told. I am really disgusted with the treatment I received.

Tesco refused to refund my purchase within 1 week of purchase after finding out that the shoes I bought were painful to wear any longer than 10 minutes. Nothing damaged, returned as good as new.

Disappointed by refund - I have a receipt, which I exchanged the damage for the new onw. And I am still being refuded, because the original was refunded when replaced, and I was not given a second invoice. I showed my bank statement and still they declined. I have been shoipping with Tesco since 1988,and very disappointed. When was this new policy of not receipt noi refunds communicated to us? I get vouchers, marketing promotions, clubcards plus, and club card points lettersand email promotions. And they couldn't send us smotke signal on their changes in policy?

I have just tried to return 2 pairs of pyjama to Tesco and a pair of trousers. All bought with debit card and Tesco card but have been refused on the grounds of NO RECEIPT. My understanding is that bought by debit card is the same as a Receipt. Can you please tell me what your policy is??

I have concerns about your latest tv advert showing a customer returning an unwanted melon & exchanging for a pineapple. Admirable returns policy but how do you ensure food items have not been contaminated or tampered with? Your previous policy was to not accept returns of perishable items. Please put my mind at rest - returned items always scrapped?

Bought 2pt milk 7 days ago and went to use it on the 6th, where I found it had gone off. It still had 1 more day to go and decided to return it to the store the next day. At customer service was asked when I'd bought it and then given some spiel about 20 min rule. I then showed her the date and pointed out that it hadn't been opened yet. Her question now being "So why is it off then?" My point exactly. "Well, I'm still not going to exchange it, sorry." I asked to see a manager who then gave me the same 20 min spiel, but in the end let me have an exchange when I insisted that it didn't apply as the milk had gone off before it's sell by/use by date and hadn't even been opened. Both staff members need to learn to listen to the answers of their questions and use some common sense to each situation. Get better service at Morrisons and no manager was needed.
