Marshalls Returns and Refunds

Please find details regarding the return and refund policies for Marshalls below. We encourage you to leave a comment regarding your experience requesting a return or refund from Marshalls so others can benefit from what you learned.

Marshalls Return Policy

Customer satisfaction is of top priority at Marshalls, however in the event an item requires a refund or exchange, their policy outlines the procedure.

With the store receipt, a refund or exchange will be processed within 30 days of the purchase date. A store credit will be issued for any returns without a receipt (or gift receipt) or that have passed 30 days.

Merchandise should be in clean, unworn condition. Any merchandise that appears used will not be accepted. Swimwear and intimate apparel must have tags securely attached for refunds. Other restrictions may apply.

With so much fraudulent return activity among retail stores, Marshalls reserves the right to limit or decline a return based on their refund verification system.

In order for a refund to be processed without a receipt (or with a gift receipt), valid ID such as a drivers license or state issued ID is required along contact information and signature. A signature may still be required for returns with a receipt as well. To help make the return or exchange process swift and easy, make sure your receipt is accessible.

Just got back from Marshalls trying to return some brand new clothes - with all tags attached. Was told that because I did not have the receipts and it was 30 days since the purchase, I could not even get a store credit. Why would they care - they already received the money and I would even take a clearance price. They would be the winner! Not going to that store any more....

This is bull, I wanted to return something but they didn't let me because I didn't have the card I purchased it with and I had my receipt

Posted by S-ri

Please explain to me why would you have an option at checkout where it said receipt "email only" then you go home try the clothes on realize they don't fit you and you go searching through your email for the receipt and it's no where! I went back to the store to return the items and was told I couldn't return without a receipt. Which I never got through email. So to prove the lady I purchased something I needed and once again put email receipt and still didn't get it while
Waiting with the cashier at checkout

I hate their policies. I have so many unused items. Never worn with tags and Marshall's stickers that I never got back in time and assumed I only had 30 days. I also have been told many times that without a receipt I could not return the item. What so ever. Not even for a store credit and having the original card I purchased it with. It has even happened with items I know were purchased after I started having them email me my receipts! On only one occasion they told me I could exchange the item but only if I found the exact same item and I was purchasing a different size?? In my own experience. They absolutely try to never give credit for anything without receipts and within 30 days. After reading this it seems they must tell their employees to deny them. I've had this problem at many stores. I love their prices but especially now where we can't try anything on. All stores need to at the very least follow the crappy policy they have in effect. Most times I never actually return things but knowing I can makes me go ahead and make purchases. They would probably make more with a better consistent policy!

Marshalls return policies are the worst! I bought a pet bed. Cat wouldn't use it. Returned 2 days after purchase, with tags still on it and receipt. They would not return it because of covid. I was not told sale was final at purchase. Nowhere on the receipt did it say that. It clearly said 30 days with receipt! They lost a customer. I will get my things on Amazon and I won't even have to leave my house.

I purchased 4 pairs of winter boots online and one pair just wasn't what I expected so I took them back. I had lost my receipt and looked at the return policy that stated without receipt you will get store credit. Okay that's fine with me so I drove one hour to Wilkes-Barre, Pa with the unworn new boots still in box with Marshalls sticker on them. They really gave me a hard time. Saying I have to get the receipt. The cashier got her manager who was rude when I told her I read Marshalls return policy today before I drove here and it stated without a receipt a store credit would be issued as long as the item is not worn and tags are on. She told me that is very unlikely. I boldly said I just read it. She finally gave me a store gift card. She made me feel like she thought I made it up. I will not shop there from now on. No reason for this treatment as the boots where in perfect condition still wrapped in the factory paper and in the box with Marshall sticker.

I purchase a Colehaan tote from Marshall's located at 5000 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77056. The tote was too big as an everyday bag so I returned it the next day at the Marshall's located at 5760 Hollister St, Houston, TX 77040. They said they can not accept the return because they can not verify the item. What does that even mean? What are they matching it with? Marshalls need to update/upgrade their verification process and system because this does not work. You might as well say you do not accept returns at all.

Marshall's has the worst return policy in the world. Three days ago, I went to the store to change a romper. The receipt was within 30 days, the clothes were new, with tags and never wore it. The change was made correctly and I bought a dress. Since the pandemic, there's a policy of not being able to use the fitting rooms. I bought the dress and trying it on at home, I didn't like it. I went to change it today and I tried one last time with another dress, but to make the change, the cashier asked me for the card with that I bought the dress three days ago, on the receipt clearly the number reflected is mine, but she said that it wasn't and there were three possible reflected cards with which the dress was bought and mine wasn't. She gave me a card number that I didn't recognize at all but is the card used for the purchase, so she put the credit on my mother's TJ Maxx card (she was with me) and see if it was the card that reflected the dress purchase. I have no idea why she did it. She simply had to adjust the credit for the dress I was going to return for the new one I wanted to buy and I paid the difference or put the credit on a gift card for pay for the dress but she was so spoiled that she placed the credit where she preferred. I didn't understand the process she did, it never happened to me. If I wanted the credit and I didn't have the card or the receipt with me, they should have offered me a gift card for me to use later. It's my money and they have to find a way to give me credit for the return. She doesn't like her work, she was incompetent for not asking for help or she was trying to give me a bad moment. This Marshall's is in Puerto Rico.

Yesterday shopped local Marshall's. Purchased cologne and a few chew toys for dogs. When I get home I find only chew toys for dogs in Marshall's bag, but no cologne. The cashier must of made a mistake and not put the bottle of cologne in my bag with chew toys: Never had this happen to me before shopping at any store in my life. Going to go back to the store tomorrow, but if I can't make it I will call and explain the situation. Hoping my item will be waiting for me with cashiers being that I paid for it, but never received it after cashier removed the anti-theft device. It's a strange or random situation being I paid, have a receipt, but never received the cologne I paid for. Interested to find out how Marshall's will handle this. All I want is what I paid for and I am hoping the bottle of cologne is waiting for me at the cashier stand. Hoping for an easy fix for this what is hopefully a misunderstanding. Anyone else ever have this happened to them? Was fixated on the receipt upon exiting the store. First time I have ever experienced such a thing.

I bought online at Marshall's and went to return they told me I could not get a credit on my credit card and could only give me cash back because they "changed their system". I was very annoyed.

I'm very upset. I've been a loyal customer since the 1980s. Today I was returning a shirt at Marshall's in Phoenix AZ. I had the receipt and tags and it was within 30 days. The cashier was obviously new and a little unsure of herself. That's fine, but she wasn't the friendliest. She asked if there was anything wrong with the shirt. I could've said no, and now wish I had. But instead I was honest and said yes there is because when I washed it, it fell apart and I showed her where. She said I don't think we return washed items. I said it's defective so yes you do. She went and got her manager, who was very rude and told me I couldn't return it. I also had $250 worth in my cart that I was going to purchase, But that didn't matter. Nothing mattered. It didn't matter that it wasn't in the receipt or posted anywhere that defective items could not be returned or that washed items could not be returned. I then asked for her manager. He asked me no questions and just said NO. I was pissed! Then he pulled the "I'll do it just this one time". I've returned defective items before. I've never been treated badly at Marshall's. But this Marshall's was not my usual Marshalls. This one is at Colonade Mall 20th St and Camelback in Phoenix. I may never go back to any Marshalls after today. I hope you set this store straight.

The item I bought recently did not uccepted in the store. It is ridiculous. I was able to return for store credit before, now they said the item is not in the system. Seriously.......In the return policy it doesn't say the item has to be in your system. It has your tag. You just must do whatever is written in your policy.

Why is it that I can't return a blow drier that I purchased 3 days ago because it doesn't have enough power for what I need it for. The counter told me I can't return because it's a product. Excuse me but it's not a product it's an appliance. I'm a license cosmetologist in the state of N.J. Iam at your Hackettstown Store in N.J. Please inform your employees .. Thanks!

Marshall you need to revise your returning policy! Stinks!!!!

Posted by Anonymous

My local Marshalls did not accept tagged new items for credit because there said there is a limit on how long ago the purchase was. I do not see this in their written policy.

Cosmetics, soap and other personal care products are classified federally as ORM-D, and according to federal law cannot be returned.

Tried to return some makeup items that didn't work out for me and they wouldn't let me exchange them or return them. Two of the items smelled terrible. They should really put a sign that says it's final sale.

Posted by Not shopping there again

I returned an item I had lost the receipt to. The associate wrote my name on the card where they were going to give me store credit. She even wrote my name wrong. I don't understand this policy. If it is a matter of customers returning a high volume of items, then do it for them. Since they take our ID and note it, they should know that I have not returned any items there. It's just a stupid policy.

I returned some things last night 2 TJ Maxx with the gift receipt in which they gave me a merchandise credit with my name on it and I was told only I could use it I think this is the stupidest policy I've ever seen I wanted to send my daughter the gift card which I did not receive so that she could buy her some school clothes. They would not let me buy a gift card with their merchandise credit. Needless to say I walked out with the $300 merchandise credit that I will probably never use TJ Maxx you need to revise your return policy!!!!!! I have been a long-time customer of Marshalls and TJ Maxx but will probably now never shop there again!!!!!!

Just returned cosmetic item that I was allergic to. Was told they didnt take back these types of items. I see no signage in store that says they won't take back cosmetic items. I had the packaging and receipt. In the end they did let me exchange the item. They need better signage or to have that put in their receipts.

I agree. They now have a horrible return policy. Be careful BEFORE you buy something there.

January 6,2020. Today I tried to return a pair of shoes that was a gift but didn't have a gift receipt or tag on it. I work in retail as a manager and before I visit the store I called and asked about the refund policy because I didn't have a tag or receipt. The associate stated that I can return item without the receipt or tag and get a store credit, which would have been fine. But it didn't happen because I got there they said no.I have my bank statement for the day I purchased the shoes. All I wanted to do is make an even exchange. My point is that all associate and mangers should know the store policy on refunded.Don't tell me you can but when I get there, someone else so no.

I tried to return something which I bought on December 27 th with receipt today ( I had the things with tag., didn't even use it ). They denied it . I asked for store gift card . They denied that too . I am regular customer . I am not going back ther ever again .

Horrible return policy. Will never shop there. I got a belt as a gift but it was the wrong size. I was trying to exchange for the exact same belt just a different size. But because I didn't have the receipt or the tag on it that said Marshall's they wouldn't take it. Even though I told them multiple times it was a gift. Horrible customer service.

I purchased a few of the activewear pants on or about October 20, 2019. A pair of the pants with are coming apart. Each side has leather with zippers on them and they are coming apart at the seam. I went to take them back today, but I was told by the clerk that without a receipt or the tags they could not be returned. I told her that I have the card that I purchased them, but she said they still would not do it because their system doesn't work like that. I then asked for the manager. She said that if they had other pants with the same name brand I could do an exchange. They checked but said because that particular brand was not out there they could not do it. I did not expect the pants to come apart at the seams, so I did not keep the tags. I spent just about $50 on that same visit.

I was recently in the Marshall's on 416 E Main St Middletown, CT 06457 and had a horrible experience with a return. I was returning two children's jackets unworn with tags attached and I couldn't find my receipt. So the clerk was issuing me a store credit which is fine, but the associate next to her said to "be sure and remove the tax, if they have no receipt we don't refund the tax". I had never heard such a thing before and when I asked they said it was there policy. I rummaged through my purse and found the receipt after all and because it was past 30 days they again said they wouldn't refund the tax because it was past 30 days. At that time the manager or whom I assume was the manager was walking by and I asked where in their policy does it state that refunds would subtract the sales tax if the receipt was missing or past a certain time frame? She just kept repeating that it was their policy and again I asked where is it stated? I read the policy on the receipt, on their wall mounted policy behind the register and in the entry way and no where did it mention not refunding the state tax. She then said "it was a state law." which I then said was absolutely incorrect as I work in retail and there is no such law. I was so frustrated I took the store credit and left. Ridiculous.

I never had problem with return with or without receipt and this the first time with a manager Marthy in (marshalls homeGood 3000 fashion center blvd newark DE) he did give me any reason at the end he said is overpriced he was really mean .My family and I we never go there we will pick Burlington

Their return policy is simply stupid!
I had the receipt and the original packaging of my online purchase, I had a credit card and a debit card in my name, and I had my driver's license. They refused a refund simply because I didn't have the same credit card I used online. (they issued store credit which I don't need)

Posted by Jojo

This new return policy is crap! So if you return without a receipt they put your name on a merchandise credit and only you can shop, but not allowed online!!! This is an inconvenience! Why can't this company update their registers and all headquarters data to look up the things bought on credit cards like Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Gap, etc. Definitely will be shopping there a lot less!! My friend who made returns without a receipt but had to give her ID was refused returns because she returned a couple if times, she questioned how many times does it take for the company to put her on a no return alert and they did not give her an explanation nor did they let her do a return, so she had her sister do her return for her. This companies policy's are stupid they hurt the shoppers who are not criminals and they really think that this will prevent loss if money they are wrong! Criminals learn how to get around it all, like actually stealing merchandise before it hits the stores!

Marshalls created a new return policy and it's outrageous. If you have no receipt, you will receive store credit with the name of the person who returned it and ONLY that person can use it. Husband and wife cannot exchange store credit cards or hand it over to your 21 year old daughter to use. Sounds like another way for the store to make money

I've never been more frustrated with the Marshall's on Kettleman in Lodi ca. Use to be one of my favorite stores. I spent a lot of money here. It the last time the customer service was incredibly poor. We tried to do a return and they wouldn't allow it because we had no receipt . We had the card it was purchased on and the tags were still on. The jeans we purchased had rips on the side and stains on the bottoms. And then the other pair was in perfect conduction just didn't fit... in so confused as to why we couldn't even get store credit. The store manager tried in no way to help us out... totally ruined my expience at that Marshall's and honestly won't be going back.. we were treated like theifs like we just stole it to wear and then return after we were done. Ridiculous.

Merchandise should be in clean, unworn condition. Any merchandise that appears used will not be accepted. Swimwear and intimate apparel must have tags securely attached for refunds. Other restrictions may apply.

I am really upset!! It does not say I need a receipt for swimwear and intimate. The Marshalls in Anaheim turned me away and I was told I needed a receipt. I was returning 3 bras, they were still attached and on the hanger with the tags attached!! Not happy with your store!! Especially that employees, he was kind of rude!

Admittedly, I was returning something that, although I had not used it and didn't have my receipt and it was from 2018, to a Marshalls/Homegoods in NJ.

I was told by the stock girl for that department that she could not accept the items back, unless I brought a receipt. So, I will look for the receipt, however, as I read the comments below, it appears that people are unable to return items, based upon whatever unstated, unprinted policies Marshall's/Homegoods makes up, on the fly.

As a result, it might be good to seek legal advice for this as, while I realize they are in business for themselves to make money, so wonder if it would be a legal or even discrimination case as, they seemed to have placed themselves in the position of making up things, which they need not print. At minimum, this would come off to many customers as store personal simply making things up, on a whim, with the customer at their mercy, for bringing in items which were found defective, subsequent to purchase, items that have receipts, items that were unused and, perhaps, in better condition than items they're trying to pass off as merchandise in their clearance areas, etc.

In addition, they seem to be sending customers back to stores where items were originally purchased, in order for the items to returned. They well realize this makes for a huge inconvenience for manybof their customers. The reason is that the MarMaxx line of stores scatters the distribution of their merchandise. As an example, if you buy a set of dishes and you need more, you may need to go from store to store or county to county, in order to hope that you find the remaining pieces. Along the way and because of their unstated return policies, a customer is made to feel that they can return merchandise at their local store, as a convenience, which is untrue. They would, instead, have to travel a great distance to make the smallest of returns.

While they hav a rather soft statement saying that their policies are due to increase in fraud, how they currently handle customer returns, instead, dims their reputation into a chain with rather shifty and shady policies. A chain where customers are uncertain of their shopping experience, having little interest in coming in as, it just may be easier to shop elsewhere. They will, instead, grow a reputation for fraud themselves.

So when did it start that you can't return an item with the tag on to a different Marshall's store? I shop 4 of them in my town and I can't remember which store I bought the item and I want to return it! Get it together Marshall's or you'll be losing customers!!

I had unused shampoo and conditioner I bought a couple bottles each of thinking it was the same formula as the ones I had used prior. Turned out it wasn't and I was well passed the 30 day mark but bought within 2019. Store refused to store credit the items because the price tags on the products indicated they were from mid 2018...
So although I did not buy them that long ago, they refused to refund/store credit. Not impressed

I have purchased a few items in San Juan Capistrano Marshalls but came to Irvine Marshalls to return. I was told that one of the items (a dress) they do not carry and it cannot be returned there. I was told to drive back to the store where I purchased this item to return it. The manager telling me that was very nice so I am not upset with her but I have not seen anything in Marshalls' policy regarding what and where items can or cannot be returned. Obviously rules like that cause a lot of inconvenience and I wish I was told in advance about that. How is a customer expected to know what items cannot be returned at another store?

Ok so I bought an elf costume at Christmas last year but couldnt find it in time for Christmas wearing on the kind of all the gifts , boxes and gift bags that were everywhere . I located it yesterday and I could use a couple of tank tops so I'm gonna try my luck today and see if they will give me store credit items are beyond the 30days but new with tags attached and they can resale them this Christmas for sure . So you think I'm gonna have any problems cuz I'm not one for causing a scene but if you start one I sure will be happy to finish it , for sure.

I bought 2 sticks of deodorant at a nearby Marshall's, both different scents. After I tried them I did not like either of their smells and went to take them back. The store said they would not return them because they we're used. I didn't believe this which is why I looked up Marshall's return policy here on line. I discovered it looks like any used item cannot be returned. While this may be the policy, I will try to remember to never buy anything like that from Marshall's anymore. I have returned items to other stores after I may not have liked them after trying them. I think they need to improve their return policy. Now they have a dissatisfied customer, who will repeat this info to friends, etc, so they are aware of this limitation and can buy essentials somewhere else.

The marshalls in Long island City new york has to be the WORST Marshalls i've ever been too. The people who work their are not willing to help and are rude and mean. HATE this Marshalls. Messy and always not enough workers because the line is outrageous. Never going back.

The manager at the Marshall's in Stevenson Ranch California is unprofessional. They make you feel horrible about a return that you only purchased a few days prior. Not used with receipt. She states her own made return policies. Clearly bor stated on receipt. She also talks to you like your a child. I dont think I'll be shopping there anytime soon. I personally dont even comprehend how you train your associates.

Marshall's Store Return Policy/Customer Service
I was very disappointed with the assistant manager today when we tried to return an defective kitchen appliance which was purchased 5 days ago. She unreasonably refused to be flexible and did not issue a refund nor offer a store credit, stating that their policy states that if a product had been used, it cannot be accepted for refund. What?? You buy a product, you use it, its defective. The return policy does not make sense. In California, when a product is defective, it does not meet the reasonable expectations of a consumer, the retailer is responsible in issuing a refund since the product does not work in the manner intended. Marshall customer service is appalling.

I bought a pair of levis boots 2 months ago. I use them for my work and the sole of the boot detached in my work and I almost fell. I took them back to Marshalls to exchange and the manager did not want to exchange them because I did not have the receipt and She could not resell them. shame of you marshall's You only sell garbage.

I bought a bottle of OPI Nail Lacquer that I returned UNUSED within 30 days WITH receipt and was told by the manager they don't take back personal care products. I said so your return policy is different than your sister store, which takes them back? He said he'd do it this one time. I prefer TJ Maxx any day due to the store personnel being nicer, the store being cleaner, and the store having more and better products.

I purchased a suitcase in which the zipper broke during my first use. I have had the luggage for a little over a week and they won't return it due to it being "used." Well, it is a crappy product! If I got through the manufacturer, I'll have to pay a 24.95 service fee and all I will get back is the same crappy product. Other stores let you return defective products, even if they have been used! I have the receipt and original tags!

The worse policy for returns I've always shopped there before work, lunch or after bcause it is close by. Today took 2 pairs of shoes to get store credit bcause I had misplaced the receipt, their were shoes for my granddaughter that were the wrong size, one pair she would give me store credit the other she couldn't bcause they didn't carry that shoe. What the heck? Their from MARSHALLS- I'm in MARSHALLS! I didn't buy them from that particular store but they were still bought 2 weeks ago in the same county!!! Im going to cut up my TJX CARD! I don't need to shopping here, your policies are crazy!

I agree with the poor attitude of management. I was returning two items today, and inadvertently got iced tea on one. Unknowingly,I gave it to the clerk. After looking at the receipt, she said "you have had this a long time.". I replied "less than 30 days.". She then pointed out the droplets and said "is this stained? What is this?" and proceeded to smell it multiple times. I said maybe it was iced tea. She indicated that they couldn't accept it, which I agreed to. I said that I would bring it back after I got the stain out. She called a manager over to ask about that! The manager had a very abrasive voice, and said she didn't think so! All this for a $20 top. I much prefer TJ Maxx. They seem more concerned with keeping customers.

I purchased a set of bed sheets. I washed them before putting them on the bed as they smelled of insecticide (that should have been my 1st clue). I have several sets of sheets so I rotate them. Yesterday I laundered them for the third time (after second use). As I was folding them I noticed an area about 18 inches square were excess pilling had occurred and deviations in the weaving along the longer side about 4 to 5 inches from the edge. Nothing was washed with these sheets, only the matching pillowcases, top sheet, and bottom sheet. The clerk at the store was friendly and professional and called the store manager. The store manager was rude and barked he could not return or exchange them as they had been washed, they were out of the original packaging, no price sticker - couldn't YOU READ - the policy is posted on the wall. After I explained the expectations of purchasing bed sheets and using them for 4-5 years without excessive pilling, bed sheets should hold up to multiple washings. These were made from defective materials, only washed three times. If I had anticipated piling or not holding up in the wash I never would have purchased them to begin with. The store manager then used a condescending tone to say, "Look Lady, don't cop an attitude WITH ME, I am just trying to help YOU". The store manager had a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas. He had a foul attitude without gathering any information and so ignorant as to product expectations. When I asked him if he was aware of an implied warranty, he started going off on a rant about how he was not responsible for warranties and generally having a meltdown. I really didn't need his abuse nor have to subject myself to his meltdown. After listening to him go off for several minutes, I interrupted him and said, here's my receipt, just give me store credit. What a jerk!! His toxic attitude was very embarrassing to the clerk and she apologized several times for his attitude. I could NEVER work for such a toxic human being. Very sad for what the employees must endure!!
People like this should NEVER be in leadership. Such an abusive and ignorant man. Why would I ever want to shop there again? I was so upset, I quickly got a new set of sheets and went home without making any other indented purchases. Bad Karma from store Manager Daryl. He should look into a different career choice that does not deal with the public. He was very disrespectful, unable to effectively problem solve, zero customer service.

One of the denim after 1 wash is completely washed out and shrunk. I usually wash ALL of my clothes before wearing them, but I didn't expect after 1 wash that would've happened to it. The item is a black denim brand name d.jeans size 8. I want to return or exchange this item but after reading your policy and these comments, I'm a little concern. Please let me know what can be done. Thanks!

Marshalls requires that your drivers license number be input into their system in order to effectuate a return or exchange. This means you are required to "voluntarily" provide your personally protected information to Marshalls to do routine business with them. DON'T DO IT. Beyond saying it is Marshall's "policy," I've been provided no explanation for the "need." I'll spend my money in stores that don't try to trick you into divulging sensitive private information in order to do routine simple business.

Over the years(at least 25), i have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars at Marshalls(&TJ Maxx)...I'm sure like many shoppers, there have been many times where i've purchased an item, brought it home, put it on a hanger, and into my closet...only to forget about it...here's my comment/concern...i've seen Marshalls' tags/stickers enough times to know that there is a long number with dashes just below the word "Marshalls"...i believe it's 4 digits- 9 digits- 6 digits(last of which are price, i.e. 1999 is $19.99)- 2 digits(with a square around them)- 1 digit...obviously, there is some sort of code which lets Marshalls employees know WHEN something was purchased, simply by looking at this long, dashed code of numbers...because there have been NUMEROUS occasions when i decided to return, let's just say a shirt for example...and maybe i didn't have the receipt...i usually keep all my receipts...i take the item out of a Marshalls bag, hand it to Associate while i'm getting my license out, and very quickly they will say, "This item is VERY OLD"...all i'm looking for is a store credit & if the item has never been used with tag still attached, i'm wondering why that's a problem...it's very likely that the item i'm attempting to return will be purchased by another shopper within a reasonable amount of time...so i'm just wondering if this is an Official Policy or certain stores just make up their own rules...has anyone else ever been denied a return because their item was "OLD"? Or does anyone know if they're allowed to deny a return of unused item(s)? Thank you kindly...

I got a pair of New Balance sneakers as a Christmas gift. They were brought in Boca Raton FL. They are little snug. I have no receipt. I live in Ct. Can I exchange them here in CT for a bigger size?

Poor return policy
I returned items with a gift receipt and all I could get was a store credit
What is the point of getting a gift receipt?

Went to return an item purchased the the Marshalls in Greece NY. I had the receipt and I was in the 30 days. After waiting over a half hour the cashier refused to do the refund since the card I had, which is linked to the same account, just a different nber thany wife's. After reading the policy the return should have been made. I am beyond angry and will. Other shop there again

So, my mom bought two pairs of shoes at the Marshall's at Chino. Ca, store. I wanted to return a $60 dollar bluetooth speaker that did not perform well at a different store in Upland, Ca since I love shopping there. The cashier promptly refunded me in cash with no issues and did not even open to check the box. Well, I overheard the cashier helping my mom and it was ridiculous! This young cashier clerk apparently had no brain of her own and asked the cashier next to her if it was fine to return. I heard the other cashier say, yes if it has tags attached and a receipt, which my mom had for both. Then on the 2nd pair of shoes to return, the cashier asked if the other pair could also be returned? THEY ALSO HAD TAGS ATTACHED AND NEVER WERE WORN. WHAT??? I am glad my mom is more patient or I would have blown that cashier to the ground. They gave her back the money but told my mom to avoid shopping at places that act incredibly silly on a purchase less than $40 dollars??? I hope Marshall's can train their new employees better and if they are not new, fire the boneheads who waste people's time and scrutinize returns were there should not be any to begin with.

After going through all the comments, I consider myself very lucky as I haven't faced any such issues the staff were kind and courteous( I have returned thrice in a span of 2 weeks out of which 2 items were defective)
No questions were asked and I quickly got my refund.

Sorry for the typos prior (speech to text) awful mistakes. Here goes once more:

I was at Marshall's in Sept (I spend tons of money there and tj maxx but this has got me stunned) so I found a pair of Adidas sneakers, the last size 8 1/2 women's however there was no price tag on the box even though the sign above stated $39.99. Upon check out the cashier had to print some sort of sticky tag with the same price stuck it to the box and I paid the same price. however once I was home and wore them around the house for an hour which I always do with shoes I realized they were hurting my ankles and within a week I attempted to return them at the very same store. Well there was a problem the manager stepped in and said that this tag although having the correct receipt as proof showing that I paid for them within five days was not the tag to the exact item and therefore they would not return them not only would they not return them they would not give me store credit! This is the manager I don't understand how this is possible. I clearly did not print out the tag and she even admitted it looks like the tag the cashier printed out usually when an item is missing a tag or something of the sort did something wrong. Why should I have to take the loss? I was besides myself! so what could I do? This is the manager after all. It is not my fault that the cashier initially printed out a wrong ticket and stuck it to the box. Now I am stuck with a pair of sneakers and a loss of 39.99 plus tax. It is now past the 30 day limit whereby I can get cash back . I even tried taking them to a differentl Marshall's and they treated the issue the same saying try taking it back to the original store. (Where I obviously did as stated above). This really is insulting and I don't know what to do. Any advice? This Took Place in Sept 2018 it is now November 2018. The store was the Marshall's store in brick NJ. The receipt even reads "27 athleticfoot 075631790 $39.99N" Pls if you have any advice to resolve this by all means do contact me if you would at se312t at gmail dot com. Thanks, stephanie

I went to Marshall's store inBloomfield NJ to return an online order I purchased from online TJMax . I was returning 3 items still in the clear sealed packaged. After standing in line for 30 min with 17 people in line waiting to be next you have no choice but to be patient. Once I got to the register the cashier could not do the return by herself so she asked for help. So I waited as I watch the people in line behind me get checked out. Finally someone came back to my register to assist me. They did not know how to read the online packing slip or labels on the bags of the items I had to find and circle the items. So they walked away for about 8 mins upset they had to do this return. They keeping me waiting as they went back to working behind the counter dealing with clothes. They did not feel like taking the items back so i was told we don't take online back but as a courtesy I will do it. So after waiting with no one trying to assist me I decided to call corporate to get the return policy's first hand since there was a problem to assist me in making this return the customer service online agent confirmed the policy that I could return the items which I had for less than 4 days. So I could not believe this Manager Angela midland failed to put her customers first. I could not believe she was making up her on policy's at this store she managed. I couldn't believe the lack of customer service she showed as a manager. I would think management would be held at a higher standard and would want to keep their customers happy. When she seen I was making a phone call she decided she better help. Based on my experience I would never return to that store to spend my money ever again. You may or may not be able to return anything you buy on line so I will have to shop at the retail stores that practice good customer service.$5000 credit limit but I wouldn't spend a dollar back in that store. It's a joke. Management needs more training.

I purchased a beautiful royal blue sweater that I'd did wear one time to a woman's conference for $19.99. I wore the sweater for 8 hours while sitting in a chair. The front of the sweater developed several snags through no fault of mine and looks horrible! The Marshalls store in Albany, Oregon would not stand by their product and give me a refund. I have recently purchased pants, a purse and two baskets from there in the past month. If you won't stand by your products, then I won't shop there any more. The fabric apparently was flawed. I planned on wearing this sweater for to a few events over the upcoming holidays. Now it isn't even fit to donate to Goodwill! I am so disappointed!

I recently purchased an Anastasia beauty contour that was too light on my skin. I normally never return used products but I lightly swatched the products when I noticed the wrong color. I bought the color I needed and went to return the used product.

The clerk consulted with her manager since it was used. Luckily the item was accepted for return and I'm glad that it was. I left a satisfied customer and will be a repeat customer. Hooray for Marshall!!

I've tried to return them but because I have no receipt the girl says it no longer on their inventory.. it's $19.99 .. they really don't fit and at my age they look inappropriate.. I'm Not looking for money back just a credit I could use towards something else .. I spend a lot of money at your stores especially during Xmas .. is there anything that can be done?

I bought a hair clipper on 9/5/ this year at the Marshall store located on Hollywood Western. The hair clipper was on special and when I opened it some parts were missed I tried to use it anyway and it was noisy. I took it to the store yesterday, but unfortunatly I forgot my receip at home. I told to the cashier I want to exchange it and she talked to someone who claimed to be the manager. She refused to give me credit. I told her I bought it in that store 2 weeks ago and still have tags, but she said they dont give refund or credit on products without receip. I told her it was not my first time returning something without a receip, and they always give me store credit. She said that was not truth because in order to get refund or store credit I needed my receip. Even Marshall tags where there in the box she didnt gave me store credit. She kicked me out saying go to any store if you want but not here. I was so frustrated because after I left I saw another white guy returned something else without receip and tje same cadhier gave him a store credit. I asked the guy if they gave him a recund and he said yes they did. I told him how come to me they refused to give me store credit? I felt so bad because this store are very racist with hispanic people. I have many years being a Marshall customer, Im a Marshall card holder and I think I dont deserve being treated with racism. I will go with my receip to talk with another store manager about this insult they did to me yesterday. Blanca Arias.

They don't use a passport as a form of ID?? It's only the number most secure way of accurately IDing somebody. However, the will take a card that allows me to drive a car.

Returned a bra one week after purchase, unworn, all original and Marshall's tags attached, with receipt. Rude male employee says we no longer take back bras, but I'm making an exception this once and don't try it again! So I guess they have a new policy (not printed on the receipt) vilifying nipples of people who wear bras. I have a policy that I'd rather try on a bra at home. Do they take back a shirt that a man tried on, because his nipples touched the inside of the shirt?

I attempted to return several outfits for my daughter at the Jericho, New York location that were gifted by my mother and were too small for her. All the tags were on and they were brand new. The sales associate told me that she couldn't find the items in her system, and that they were from December so it was too late to return them. I asked for the Manager, Delmey, and she came over and repeated the same thing, but became rude and said I shouldn't have waited so long to return them, and should have kept a receipt. She walked off before even finishing the conversation. When I told her that I would tell everyone not to shop there anymore, she shot back 'or you can just tell them to keep their receipt'. Extremely rude and unprofessional, not to mention acted like a racist. Then the original representative became even more rude so I decided not to buy anything at all and just walked out. When I walked back in to get the customer service number off of the sign, they were talking about me in front of customers. Will never shop here again.

I wanted to return a bookbag with no receipt, the cashier asked for my ID and I gave her my passport (American) and she said she couldnt do it, she asked for a state ID, I asked my friend for his ID and got my store credit. Other stores like Target can use a passport its a valid ID, this company has some ridiculous policies

I purchased some items 2 days ago. I can't find the receipt; I had assumed the cashier had put it in the bag but she apparently had not. I called the store and was told that the best they could do was a merchandise credit. After reading other complaints, I will be sure to return them to the same store. I shop at Burlington which is now huge. They ask for your email if you want them to be able to track your receipt if it gets lost. Easy-breezy. Kohls can bring up the receipt by the items SKU. Marshalls is large enough to have these simple technologies in their system. Very disappointing that i can't get my money back. I think I will stick with stores that have a decent return policy. I do that when I shop online so I will have to check that out before I purchase in the future.

I bought a dog mat that last less than 2 days, if this is pet smart or other store, they will definitely return it as in defective merchandise. In face, the mat and bed we bought from pet smart and wallmart are still in good shape. Very disappointed.

I purchased a suit case that was too small but lost my receipt. I took it to my closest Marshall's and was told that the item could not be found in the system so they couldn't return/exchange it at all. Not even for store credit. I decided to try another Marshall's a little further away and they accepted the return for store credit with no problem. I guess it just varies with each store.

Never thought that customer service would end up in such a bad place- I was told that a purse that was given to me as a gift- that the zipper broke- I tried to return it and they said not without a receipt- what kind of business is this? What about a store credit.. Not EVERYONE IS A FRAUDSTER!

Bought some items at a Marshall's and Homegoods store in Puente Hills, CA. . A few days later I went to Marshall's store in Montebello, CA to rerurn some items and the employee refused to process the return because she said that since the items were purchased at a Marshall's/Homegoods they do not accept those items and I will have to go back to the original store of purchase. It's very upsetting because Marshall's is Marshall's but it seems that they do not honor purchases from other Marshall's stores

It seems that Marshall's return policy has changed. No longer can an item be returned without a receipt. They declare the item is not in the system.

I accompanied my mother to Marshals last night so she could exchange or return a handbag which was $24.99. My mother did not realize until after she took the tag off that the strap of the bag was damaged. Unfortunately she could not find the receipt. It had only been 48 hours since you purchased the bag and her credit card was able to provide proof that she made a purchase except it was not itemized. I helped my mom take back the purse along with the tag. The manager in the store told me even though we have the credit card there was no way she could read generate A receipt. That is my number one complaint. Marshall's is a huge corporation and they cannot have the ability to regenerate a receipt. Other stores like dicks sporting goods and our local grocery chain are able to regenerate receipts as long as you have the credit card that you used. I will be very hesitant to shop here again Because in case you lose your receipt you'll never get be able to get another one. Secondly the manager at Marshall's who handled my moms transaction was completely rude and condescending to her. She told my mother that the bag looks used and I mother told her she did not use the bag she found the bag damaged before she could use it. I intervened for my mom because I could see she was getting upset and I asked the manager if she could we generate a receipt since we do have the credit card. She said she could not and because the price tag was off the item she was not able to exchange or return it. I told her that using a purse would not create such damage. With frustration she told me she would check the system with the price tag but if the barcode on the tag did not much the brand name of the bag she would not take it back. We said fine because we were confident that that was the tag that came with the bag. And then if you're came back and said I will do this this one time. She made my mom feel as that she was doing her a big favor. I asked if the tag matched the item and she said no it did not but she will do it this time. So at least the manager accommodated My mom's request but The way she treated my mother was awful and at this day and age with computer systems there should be no reason why a receipt cannot be regenerated. And there are so many other stores with much better return policies to choose from That this experience will not make me want to go back to marshals again.

I'm not sure if this was because the employee remembered me, if it was something that the employee shouldn't have done or just something with my particular store. But I have to commend them for it. I bought a flannel shirt over the holidays for myself, wore it once and then washed it and ended up shrinking it although I air dried it. Took it to my store no tags but I did have the receipt and they explained they had a return policy that allowed me to return it if they fabric shrinks and it has no warning on the care label. Needless to say marshalls is my store I will always shop at.

I used to be a loyal Marshalls customer. When I went to do an exchange in the Whittier, California store with a receipt, I was denied because it was over 30 days. I asked when did this policy go into effect and she rudely pointed at a sign, as if I was ignorant. No class and terrible customer service. I will be cancelling my credit card and shopping at Target, Nordstrom, Macy's and Kohl's who have excellent customer service and return policies.

Marshalls and TJMaxx have gone from being my favorite stores to being the WORST stores. I have shopped at both for over 30 years and they used to be great, but now they are HORRIBLE. I really wish people would get together and file a class action lawsuit against them. Their return policy changes like the weather. The return policy is different at each store and for each customer. That is ridiculous and it needs to stop. It is unethical because they do not stand by the policy that is posted on their websites. Their employees are never properly trained and their management is THE WORST. They have new managers every time you turn around and they are rude and total idiots. And then they have the nerve to practically demand that you sign up for a credit card after they treat you like dirt. I hope someday they get sued so bad they go bankrupt and go out of business.

i bought a pound of coffee from marshalls for $5.99 .. it was the worst tasting coffee i have ever had. i had the reciept and went back to get a refund. i was told that because i opened it i could not get a refund. well, how am i supposed to know if i am satisfied with the coffee if i don't taste it ?? when i talked to the store manager, she told me to just throw it away.. so a 6 dollar refund from a multi-million dollar corporation is apparently more than they can handle.. they will never see me again...

I have three toys that I purchased for friends of the family and after I wrapped them found out that we decided not to exchange gifts with them. I took the Marshall's tags off so the recipient wouldn't have seen the price...would I be able to return these? I cannot find the receipt, I went to a few Marshall's to get purchases for Christmas and I'm not sure if they're on the receipt that I do have...if not, I realize my only option would be store credit. I purchased the items on 11/21/17

I have never had a problem returning things with a receipt and without a receipt they always give store credit. That's completely fair. They are trying to stop people from stealing and then returning the stuff for cash. So keep your receipt or don't complain.

Dec. 9,2017, St. Louis, MO, I had some returns not unusual I've been a customer for over 30 years Marshalls WAS my favorite store. I had receipts for some of the items but two I did not. They were purchased over 30 days ago but still with tags in perfect condition. I was refused a store credit. I was stunned the cashier asked me if I would like to speak to the manager and I said yes. Side note, I have never had to speak to a manager in Marshalls before. I waited he could not help me,"This was the policy". Never again will I step in that store.

So disgusted with the Marshalls return policy tonight. I had four items without a receipt and figured I would be given store credit which was fine with me. Apparently if the item doesn't "show up in the system" you get nothing. All tags still on the items along with stickers with the size on the pants. I have shopped at Marshalls for about 30 years and never had a problem like this before. The manager suggested I try the Marshalls I bought it at so I drove across town to be told the same pathetic excuse. I have always enjoyed shopping at Marshalls but with this pathetic return policy I honestly don't think I will ever shop there again. The managers were rude and wasted my time making me drive to a second store. Very disappointed in Marshalls!

Hello there.....I was in a marshals Monday the 27th of november...I ran late that morning to work due to the fact my oldest son had wrecked his truck an was on life support. With that being said I forgot my head phones for work so I bought a pair at marshalls. The next day I brought the ear buds back with a receipt to return because I didn't need them, I just forgot my original pair. The girl that was helping me looked confused an then asked the other girl that worked at the store longer for her help. She asked"are we aloud to return head phones"? The girl replied did you use them, an I said yes 1 day cause I forgot my own pair the day before. She replied an said sorry you used them an we can't return them. I said thanks any ways an went on about my day a little upset cause I didn't need the head phones an I wasn't being rude an really couldn't afford them...However I went about my day an my son did pass away the next day and it's 1 of the hardest thing I'm dealing with in my life.....I'm home thinking about these headphones I don't need an still don't understand why I was treated that way? The store knows me and some of the associates knew of my situation but this cashier must not like me or was having a bad day? This doesn't make me ever want to shop or buy anything from a marshals or TJ maxx ever again.....

I bought a leather jacket for$189.99, had receipt and returned it at another Marshall's as I hoped I might find it in another size there and didn't.As i walked out of the store I realized that the amount for it was not returned to me on my return receipt.I immediate called the store, which was closing, and alerted a manager. She had approved this return. i had to drive all of the way back there the next day, to get my money. In the meantime,i had bought about $600.00 of more items the night of the return.I noticed that a cheap imitation leather jacket was missing it's tag, it was $29.99. I thought it was odd?I got the store to print another tag for this item and also noticed that expensive leather jacket I returned was no where in the store?Obviously, an employee switched my 29.99 tag onto the leather jacket that was originally $499.99 but sold for $189.00.I didn't say anything about that, but i was also charged 39.99 too much, no item to match one of the charges on the $600.00 purchase?it was rectified as i brought back each item and it was checked off the receipt about a week later when i tried to return some of my items purchased with tags and receipts, a manager had to check each item and was denied returns.I was given an excuse that any returns over $100.00 are handled like this, no way! I have done so several times w/out this procedure. I got treated like a person doing something wrong,on a Marshall's emloyee's mistake or?Bye Marshalls, nice knowing you, I spent about 15,000 a year in your stores, but never again, tacking my card and not watching your employees is inexcusable.

I spend a lot of money at Marshall's I don't seem to keep good track of my receipts and u Ave never had a problem returning something for store credit without my receipt, until tonight. I epect Marshall's to follow the return policy as described the associate, and store manager need to follow that policy and do not have authority to change it verbally I will be reporting to consumer affairs. Possibly a lawsuit I can feel completely disrespected and discriminated

I also had a bad experience in marshalls in rancho palos verdes. Never again will I shop there. I wanted to return a conditioner that was watered down and did not work for me. The receipt states I had 30 days for returns. The manager rudely told me. I'm not gonna accept this. In a pissed off way. Like if I insulted her in the biggest way imaginable. Nowhere did it say anything regarding beauty products, so assumed ithe 30 day policy also applied to my conditioner. Never coming here

I bought shampoo and conditioner in one of the Las Vegas stores. After one use my hair smelled so bad I had to wash it again with a different shampoo just to get rid of the smell . I went back to the store to return it and the manager told me that they do not take returns on beauty products because they can't resell it she was so rude and unpleasant it made me embarrassed that I was trying to get my money back for something that did not work for me . I called the customer service and told them about my experience and they said that the manager followed with the company policy that they do not take returns on beauty products but when I looked at the receipt and search their return policy nowhere does it say anything about not taking returns on beauty products . I will not shop there ever again.

I tried to return a a top today to the Novato Marshall's that I bought 2 weeks prior. It had all the original tags AND I had the receipt. I wasn't able to return it and was given a number to call to find out why. I called right there in front of the manager. The number was a recording stating that I ( even without knowing who I was) had "reached my limit of returning merchandise without a receipt". Ummmm. I HAD the receipt. I explained this to a manager and was given some bogus excuse that "someone must have my drivers license number because that is how they track returns". Well, 2 weeks ago when I bought the shirt, I purchased but immediately ( back to back transaction with the same cashier) returned an item. She did not ask for my drivers license. I followed ALL the return policy rules and was still denied!

I frequent Marshalls store # 1026 in Rancho Palos Verdes CA. I'm usually in there on Mondays and Wednesdays as I go there for an hour while my daughter is at tutoring. I went last night to exchange a $20 Polo shirt and a $15 pair of green Levi's khakis. I had the receipt for the khakis which were originally purchased on 8/23/16, still brand new with the tags and original receipt. I'm well aware that I will be given store credit, which is fine because I'm in the store once per week. Well the cashier consulted with a manager in a top secret meeting (right in front of my face) and then the manager comes to me and says, "I will accept it this time, but I don't have to because it has been over 30 days....I don't have to accept this this because it is out of our system now". But according to you return policy, I should have expected a store credit. The whole incident had me angered and left me feeling like some type of criminal. I guess I will have to fine a new place to shop now when my daughter is at tutoring because this location just lost my business! (I have my receipt # and everything)

***Not to mention my 16 year old went to turn in her application for seasonal employment only to be told by the manager, "I'm not working around a school schedule, and I'm not hiring you". With a sign that clearly read "flexible schedules". She was very rude and condescending and my daughter felt totally dejected when she got back into the car and was telling me what happened.***

If you live outside of the US and do not have a US licence, and you dont have your receipt, you will not be able to return/exchange. Solution... have someone from within the US with a US drivers licence complete the return on your behalf (or do as I did, get the next person in line to sign on your behalf providing their drivers licence!). Note I had my passport, US visa and own countries drivers licence, but apparently none of those are worthy of Marshalls for identification!

Bought something which was marked down the next day( I knew the store was marking down the next day bc I asked bc I felt the price for the item was too high. ) I returned the item with the receipt and wanted to buy it back for the lower price which was what I was willing to pay for the item. Manager refused. So I returned it and they lost my sale. NOTE to MARSHALLS- items on clearance are there bc no one wanted to buy them. People are saying legally they have to give me the price difference if price changes within 7 days of purchase. I am in touch with attorney. Power back to the people not greedy corporations. By the way I agree with previous posters about Marshalls not knowing what they sell and being impossible for returns. Ever shopped Home Depot where all purchases can be looked up with your credit card and they stand behind every item they sell. Half the time the cashier doesn't give the receipt- that is why I hardly ever shop here anymore. I am also finding that many items are defective broken or seconds which are sold illegally as first quality. Bought a table cloth which had major pull in it and I wasn't about to bring it back and argue with the unhelpful customer service folks.

Marshalls manager says even if a product shows defect after using it, Marshalls has nothing to do with it and customers must deal with manufacturers directly because Marshalls is an overstock retailer. (Serious?)

Also, I agree with the comments earlier about the manager at this branch.

Today 01/05/17 I went into Marshall's I know the store associates by face I'm there atheist 3-5xs out of the month. I did ALL of my Christmas shopping there. I got my son 3 outfits
(3) Levi jeans and (3) Hurley shirts. He doesn't live with me. I dropped it off for Christmas. It turns out that he has GROWN a lot!!! So the clothes were sent back so I needed to go exchange them for the same value same brand but different sizes. I have about 17 receipts NO KIDDING i did shopping for everyone there! (I LOVE MARSHALL'S) so as a regular customer in the Crenshaw shopping center off Century Blvd I went into the store with the tags I couldn't find the receipt for my sons purchase out of more than a dozen receipts I couldn't find that particular one. However as a frequent Marshall's customer I am aware that returns without a receipt are only good for STORE CREDIT! And that's fine I just wanted to exchange the clothes for a larger size. So the cashiers tells me oh it's fine as long as you have the tags. But then some young girl next to her goes NO! We must verify it. I'm like are you serious go ahead it's your merchandise no worries. They do this BIG top secret meeting and hide around in this employees only door and send a guy named Abraham to tell me never mind I can't make an exchange without a receipt. I go why. He goes because it's my descretion so even though he could verify the items and I brought the same EXACT items to the register for an even exchange I was DENIED. So I called corporate they re-directed me to the branch manager and I am awaiting a call back from him. He is supposed to help me. I hope it works out. I was just in the same exact Marshalls about 2 weeks ago and I returned a item of $143 a Vince Camuto purse without a receipt for STORE CREDIT. I believe they were just being jerks. ANY WAYS I still purchased something after being denied because HEY LIFE IS GREAT. This was a negative experience but then I realized some people are just mean and unhelpful. I hope I can exchange the clothes otherwise my hard earned money goes to waste and my son will have to wait a bit longer. Oh at his description he said that it was a high purchase which is why he can't swap. The purchase was under $75 he says anything above $50 is a no go without a receipt. However as I mentioned before my one purse alone cost $144 I got store credit at the same store (different manager) without a problem. And I have done this plenty of times. So BEWARE and make sure you tuck your receipts in a safe place when dealing with Marshall's. because here their policy means nothing at the MANAGER'S DESCRETION

I bought a pair of shoes in the Mountain View, CA, Marshalls two weekends ago. I tried to return the shoes with the receipt and tag (the tag was not attached to shoe) but the store would not take the shoes back because the tag is not attached and the store manager doesn't remember stocking that particular brand of shoes. Really?

I shopped in that Marshalls in for 10 years (Grant Park Plaza, 1040 Grant Rd, Mountain View, CA 94040). NEVER AGAIN. You fill your stores with goods that you can't track with your system and I have to be poorer for it. The associate was helpful, the manager could not use any discretion.

I'll save my money and shop less frequently but go to Nordstrom Rack - better for me, the world and environment. At least I get good customer service and the managers are smart and not pound foolish.

Thanks

I have a suitcase that I bought in February and have never used. I don't have the tags, but I have the credit card statement for it. Spoke with manager on phone. She told me the system is out of date and they can't look up credit card statements from that far back. I told her she doesn't have to, I have a copy of the statement with the amount on it. She said it doesn't show what I purchased, just an amount.

Your return policy obviously needs to be updated to "Our problem is now your problem".

Posted by poed

so why did an smart aleck associate tell me that a item with a yellow markdown tag can't be returned without a receipt? and that it's always been a policy, to which i can attest that i have returned sale merchandise without a receipt. If it is the case, i have no problem with if it's stated somewhere, like this website or on the receipt. if not, it's sleazy business practice.

Posted by Emma

So if you never worn the top and was giving to you has a gift can you get your money back even if the tag is still on the top. Or they can look the day you bought it.

Posted by Emma

They need to keep the store near and clean so it is easy to find things need to carry more fulfugure bras.

So I was given a gift from my mother in law and I still have the tags on it, I never worn it and I don't plan to, it's not my style so I was wondering if I can return it for store credit and get something of my style

I attempted to exchange a purse ,With no receipt, with the original tags still on and stuffing inside. I was denied because the young lady said she could not verify if it was purchased in her store and she did not have a like item in the system. According to your policy I should've been able to exchange my purse. My purse was 169.99 and the purse I wanted to get was 149.99. Please advise on how I can exchange my purse.

Today is Oct.2, 2016. I bought a pair of sandals on Sep.12 which is 20 days ago. A lot of beads on sandals fell off in two weeks and I went to the store to ask for return. The employee told me store return policy would not accept wore merchandise return and exchange. I finally saw the manager and she repeated the same thing to me. I am totally Okay with the result.

What I am not satisfied is that this manager doesn't show any apologize for offering so poor quality shoes for her customer. At least, she should say she is sorry.

I am very unhappy for her attitude and the way she talked. This is the worst manager I ever experienced in service industry.

Hello.I did shopping today from your bridgepointe 2240 parkway san mateo,CA.butI guess the cashier made a mistake. I checked my account at the bank and I saw that 2 times the money from my card been served.(155.62$).are you can also check for me.I'm glad you back period.
thank you..

My receipt was accidentally thrown out with the Marshall's bag so they will not accept my return even though the item was never even tried on and the tags are intact. I paid with my Visa card so why can't Marshall's scan the tag barcode to verified I paid by my Visa card and then just credit the refund to my visa credit card??? Target & Walmart both process credit card refunds that way. Thank you.

Bought several items from Marshall's in Charlotte NC Aug 1, 2016...I tried the items on and once I was at home did not like the fit...Paid with my visa debit..so they got their money last night...Took a few items back this morning Aug 2, 2016 and was treated like I was doing something wrong by returning several of the items. I was also told they did not have enough cash to give me back so it would be 3-5 days to show the cash back in my account. The lady told me if I wanted to come back later in the day they probably would have enough cash to refund me. Really???? I am now going to return the other items that I decided to keep just because of the way I was treated doing a return. Pay with a debit where pin is used
you are given cash back or you can take credit back to your card...

Oh! and when I contacted customer service, i was offered a $17 gift card for "My Trouble". I told them keep it and use it to train their employees! The point was totally missed by them. This issue started out with a return, but manifested into, lack of training on the store policy and poor customer handling skills overall. And, the 90 day "policy" was never addressed. I was only reamed a new about the 30 day policy by customer service. Does anyone else smell class action?

Posted by Anonymous

I tried to return a top with the tags and a receipt that i bought three months prior. I was out of the country and could not return sooner. The store associate said Marshalls did not accept any kind of return after 90 days. I know the policy is 30 days for a refund, but i was not looking for a refund, i thought i would get a store credit which would have been fine since i am a regular. I insisted on talking to a store manager since i did not see that stated anywhere on their receipt or at their store. She basically humiliated me very loudly insisting that anything after 90 days was not returnable. I did not try the top on until I got home and left for my trip shortly thereafter. Now the top was only $17, i was more upset about the unprofessionalism on the store manager and associates part. Lessons: 1. Try on before you buy, you may not be able to return. 2. When you have a return and its older then 90 days, don't give them a receipt. 3. Take your money and shop at Nordstrom Rack or some place else, Marshalls is not worthy. So I did just that, took the top the next day to another Marshalls, returned it without a receipt, bought something else with the gift card immediately. Then went a couple doors down to Nordstrom Rack and did my shopping. Bye Bye Marshalls!

I have tried to return something with the receipt at tjmaxx and marshalls and I was given bs excuses and store credit. The excuse oh we don't know, the computer receives money, greedily, but somehow doesn't want to return it. Programed to grab for the greedy leeches. Once they get your money it's practically impossible to get it back. This is a dishonest corporation of greedy leeches. They already forgot that we let them in OUR COUNTRIES to have this scum take over and take advantage they got to go they are like their father the devil quoted: Jesus

So I just purchased a gift card for $500 as an anniversary gift for the wife.

Way too many people posting negative on here. I work in the travel industry and I know all too well about dealing with complainers and fraudulent credit card activity. I have recently returned 6 items to my local Marshall's that we found in our closet that was purchased 3 years ago. Tags still on each item and receipt in the bag. Did I get my money back? No, did I get store credit for the full price? You betcha. That is like Nordstrom service to me.
If you do not work in an industry that deals with credit card and identity theft, dishonest people trying to return things with tags missing, items worn or used or no receipts, then you have no clue how this impacts the business... and why costs go up. This is why the rules are enforced. The person behind the register did not create this rule. The manager did not create this rule. 99% of all business have rules and policies in place to protect them.
Word of advice: SAVE YOUR RECEIPT!! DO NOT REMOVE TAGS UNTIL YOU ARE 100% sure you want the item. If you follow the policy, you will be fortunate enough to get credit in some form. If you do not follow policy, you will not receive a refund. Stop blaming the people who work in this field for YOUR MISTAKE!!! Society's sense of entitlement is getting out of control! Take responsibility for your own actions =)

Just tried to return a dog bed I purchased with my debit card. Did not have the receipt but knew I would get store credit which was ok because I shop there often. I provided my id but they said it was not a valid id, I asked for it back and stated oh I did know it was expired, they said it wasn't that they're machine would not accept it and was unable to provide why. I advised them I am a contractor and just painted in the pinellas park police department and they were able to accept my id just fine. They said they are unable to and cannot do the refund so now I am stuck with a dog bed that my dog cannot climb on and unable to use. Thanks marshall for the horrible customer service. I will never shop at marshalls again. Since my id is not get enough for them neither is my money. It's the park place location in pinellas park florida.

Tried to get a price adjustment with my receipt on a jacket I bought less than a week that was marked down. I was told Marshalls doesn't do price adjustments. Manager told me I had to physically return the original jacket & I wouldn't & I wouldn't be able to repurchase the jacket at lower price immediately. Very bad customer services. Shouldn't be this complicated.

Hi, I purchased an Head phone from Marshall store at Atlanta. It was under clearance and box was slightly damaged. But since the product looked intact, I purchased it for USD 35+ taxes. On my attempt to connect back with the store, I was informed that since it is opened, we cannot return it. Please help.

I purchased a suitcase from Mashall's, and attempted to return it less than 2 weeks later because of a broken zipper. I will definitely NOT be shopping at Marshall's in the future.

I've been shopping at Marshalls for decades. I have not had any problems returning things and I buy and return alot! I have always known about the 30 day policy...there is a big sign at the stores that I shop at. Yes, I do lose receipts and end up with a gift card to use. The employees for the most part do their job well and never give me grief for my returns. I also try hard to be very nice to them.

I purchased a dress at a Marshall near my parents' place. I was in the hurry and didn't try it on. So, when I got home, the dress didn't fit and I had to return it to another store. The cashier refused to do a return and said that they don't carry the brand of that dress. I was shocked and told them that I purchased it at (YNZ) location and asked them to call that store to verify. The cashier told me that it's no use because Marshall just doesn't carry that brand. I don't know what brand they carry but I got the dress from one of their stores!!! The cashier looked at me as if I was some sort of an idiot. So, I had no choice to take the dress home and returned it at the old store. They made me feel like a fool. Never shop there again.

ALWAYS ask for cash back when you return! I returned a 55 dollar Anne Klein bag three weeks ago to my card and still have gotten no refund. After going to marshalls and explaining that my bank stated the money in fact was not going back on my card because of a fault on thier end they refused to help leaving me 55 dollars less. Awful customer service

Additionally, I'd like to point out that the good folks at Marshall's would like those initiating comments to refrain from the use of profanity- it seems logical that such a ridiculous return policy packaged as aim in customer service satisfaction and a 30 day process of returns would do little else but induce profanity.

Posted by Anonymous

It seems like Marshall's was able to take my $ instantaneously- it is 2015; you really want to tell me the aim is customer service and hold a 30 day process turn around for returned items? What's next? Will you offer a weather service in store where a Marshall's representative will spit in your ear and tell you it's raining for the next 30 days?

So much dissatisfied by the fact that store manager could not process the return process and also the sales appropriately. I return an item with a receipt but unfortunately I lost the tag . I would have appreciated her if she declines my request of exchange because I don't have the tag for the men's pant I bought few days before. She was busy of dealing with office time table with one of her colleague while am standing on the line.

On Jan 10, 2015, I returned items to Marshall's with & without receipts. I was told that returns will not be accepted after 30 days, and no store credit will be issued. If this is true, they have lost one of their best customers.
aLSO, when you return something that you have found damaged, Marshall's will not take it back complaining that the customer caused the damage. Their return policy is horrible. There is no reason why they can't do it the Costco way!!

Will no longer shop at marshalls due to the way they treated my wife when she return on of the gifts I got her for Xmas. First they made her return it to my card or for store credit. I still have not got my money back which really pisses me off considering she asked for cash back well with in the 30 day purchasing period with the original receipt. The cashier was being a total b$$!# about it as well, as far as I am concerned this is the worst place to shop and it's not worth the small discount.

I was questioned about each and every item that I returned by the cashier as if I needed a reason to return items that met their return policy. It was rude and slowed down the return process and line.

I bought a comforter from Marshalls for $90 and when I brought it home one of the corners was all torn and burnt. The comforter came in a torn up plastic bag that would no longer zipper, clearly it was an open item. When I went to return it the store said they could not except my return because it was damaged. They sold me a damaged product and somehow I'm the one who has to pay the price. Marshalls has officially lost a longtime customer. Take my advice and never shop at Marshalls.

It angers me that Marshall's managers try to alter the company's written policy to refuse refunds with tags and receipts. Today manager Russ from store 806 had the nerve to question why I'm returning and item. And he went on to lecture me and state he was going to process the refund "this time." As if his name is in the outside of the store and he's doing me a favor. I do not appreciate the lecture and scene he created. He also implied that my return was outside Marshall's policy. I told him that if Marshall's have made changes to their policy them the policy should be printed in receipts. I'm extremely angry and will escalate my concerns until this crap stops. Treat your customers better and stop lying when checking your ticket inventory merchandise device. Each store states different ways of implying Marshall's return policy. Get it together and every store should be the same.
