Whatever happened to the good old thrift stores?? Nowadays they profit like a mutha _ucker and screw you without any lube at all... we all need to quit buying from them period....

Posted by Watsupamerica

Dear Goodwill, stop selling electric items that hasn't been tested. Stop playing your ad that says you help and train people to get jobs, because half of them can't do theirs. And lower your prices because 95% is donated and you get a tax write off, and you keep 87% of all money earned from these free donations. You're such a a horrible person.

I bought a mirror & it is too big for the area
I should be able to return it
Goodwill should allow customer to return items within few days
What am I going to do with this mirror sitting on floor because it doesn't fit

So people should stop purchasing from goodwill

Posted by JaimePamula

This is a total sup off. If I can not try things on before I buy it then I should be allowed to return the item for my money. Cash in hand just like I paid. I can't believe they are getting away with this. It is straight robbery.

Posted by cpsmith

What a scam - they won't let you try on clothes at the stores anymore and make it difficult to return them.

On 4/10 4:30 I wanted to purchase an indoor house fan asked the cashier for an electrical outlet was told didn't have any. Then I ask about a return policy if it doesn't work. He told me basically I bought I now it's yours. No Return Policy....BS @ Flowing Wells store!

Selling faulty equipment on purpose and refusing refunds. What a scam.

In store credit needs to be gotten rid of I'm sick of goodwill selling obviously broken items at inflated prices and sticking you with in store credit when you return it. Today I was going to buy a ps3 for 80$ complete trash it didn't work. If I had walked out the door with it I'd be stuck spending 80$ on trash at goodwill ef that
!!!

Most employees cross board are fine. It's like lottery or gambling I'd guess.i got 15 dollar electronic musical device spent ten for specific power supply lacking with device and it had burning smell at once. I doubt was tested senior . Once in a while I lose and too many times I consider better since they do not and often put stuff not ever going to work out which is fine if they know and price cheaper if unconfirmed ok and and sold as is

Posted by Anonymous

Me and my grandmother was in one here in Gladewater tx and she found a cover up shirt she like and the price tag was on it when she got it off the rack, but when we got ready to check out the price tag came off and I had it in my hand and they still would not let us get it. So they have a thing up there that says all sales are final but not one that say if it don't have a tag on it they can't sales it. I know one thing they need to have a thing up in the store say that. And it not there stuff it other people thing that they give up so goodwill all I'm saying is TO GET YOUR POLICY RIGHT.

Goodwill has a horrible return policy!

Posted by I hate Shady Goodwill’s

Whoever wrote this article is full of ? and a straight out liar! Apparently Goodwill paid them to lie! BADWILL should be their name because there's nothing GOOD about them! Goodwill used to be good thrift store and a nonprofit organization and no one can tell me differently they are a 100% profit Organization now! And I will explain to you why! My mother, my son and my nephew worked for them in fact my nephew still works for them! And my nephew works in e-commerce which is shopGoodwill but more about him in a few minutes! When Goodwill started selling online after they found out how much money could be made by selling online from resellers that we're coming into their stores! Resellers would price match stuff now They have smart phones to help do that quicker! Goodwill started getting greedy and started posting the High end stuff on eBay! And Resellers would have a knockout drag out over the stuff! Because Goodwill didn't research it enough to find out what the true value was! And then Goodwill started to get more high-end donations coming in! Then Goodwill opened its own bidding site! And that's when the feather's started to fly! Resellers were doing more and more research and was reselling their winning bids on eBay! And to hell with anyone who got in these money hungry for profit jerks! And Goodwill started to realize truly how much profit could really be made by what these resellers were doing so they started to research the stuff better! Then Goodwill stopped a lot of the job training and they slacked off on hiring that many people with disabilities and also they stopped employees that good and stopped giving raises to employees further down the totem pole! Now my nephew says goodwill is shill bidding basically using it's own employee's to bid against consumers or using a program to auto bid when goodwill sees that it's not going to get as much on that particular bid or and they want even more money they will implement the shill bidding! Then they jacked the prices up on shipping knowing dam good and well that it doesn't cost that much to ship that particular item! And then they started jacking the handling prices up! Goodwill's blaming FedEx but FedEx said no Goodwill sets those prices not us and I'm inclined to believe FedEx! So Goodwill is ripping consumers off on shipping costs by pocketing the extra money that it doesn't cost to ship the items! Then there's the handling prices example one goodwill will charge a $10 handling fee to put 1 PS4 game in the box while another Goodwill only charges $2 oh and the other goodwill will charge $20 shipping while the other goodwill charges $5 so tell me if Goodwill isn't ripping consumers off why isn't there a set price on S&H then ?

I would NEVER shop a Goodwill with a no return policy. If enough people stop shopping there because of their no-return policy maybe they will change it.

I'd like a refund on this non-working RC Charger that was sold to me from your Charles Town, WV store. It is a non-working charger that should never have been placed on the shelf for sale in the first place. Are there no QUALIFIED PERSONS in back that test these items before they're placed on the shelf to sell to the public? Especially Electronics. If I bought a VHS Player and it ate my favorite VHS Tape, you'd better believe I'm bringing it back to that store and heaving it across the store until I get my refund. Your inadequate testing stations don't help the customer much. When I get home with the item and it doesn't work, I hear that you offer no refunds?? Not even Store Credit??? OK. I see how "GOODWILL" operates...Goodwill is supposed to be a "Not For Profit" Organization....Cough Cough BullSh*t....

I purchased a DVD player and found out it didn't work! I take back and you say sorry for refund or store credit. This stuff is donated to you!!! I shop at goodwill because I'm on a budget. I'm ok with no refund but not with no store credit! You don't pay for the stuff you should at least give store credit for something that doesn't work!!!! I will think twice about shopping there from now on. My daughter donates to you all the time but I'm going to suggest to her to find somewhere else to donate stuff like the Salvation Army or church groups.

Did y'all forget the meaning of Goodwill? Y'all are pathetic. With the Coronavirus Pandemic going on and even now that the mask mandates are being taken away and not offering fitting rooms the "no cash back" return policy is outrageous!! Us people who live paycheck to paycheck and are still struggling to pay rent buy an outfit for an interview (which turns out it didn't fit nor did it look good) and needed to return it and can only get in-store credit instead of cash back when you have no other black slacks in my size or even any other professional looking pants at that! Now I'm stuck with in-store credit with nothing professional to wear to my interview. Just sickening! Go Goodwill for being a freaking disgrace.

Nowhere in your return policy blurbs do you say that items can be returned to any Goodwill in the area. I had to call to find out. Please include this important piece of information in your return policy on line. Thank you.

Posted by Coach80

I guess it works differently when you purchase online. They constantly sell electronics that are "Sold as-is" or "Untested" Then when you buy it, pay postage and have it delivered and it doesnt work. They tell you too bad, it says "as-is" I told them, I understand it is "sold as is" But you should be ashamed selling items that DO NOT WORK!!. It doesnt take long to simply test the items you're selling to ensure that they are at least functional. There is no special equipment needed to test a set of headphones. A phone will work. ANY phone. No place should sell items that are broken. Its bad business. I do my best to support your organization, but when things like this happen, You lose the support from people like myself who care. If you think "stealing" from people is ok, because that is what you're doing, then you really should be ashamed.

Posted by Trish in Jax

I don't understand why you can return clothes but nothing else. What happened to the return for electronics? I buy AND DONATE at the Goodwill. Please reinstate the returns for electronics.

The Goodwills in Lafayette Indiana are WONDERFUL!! They allow for a 14 day return policy on the receipt and don't even ask why you are returning it he items. I ship there ALL the time. All 3 locations know me. Ye, I spend A LOT, but return ALOT as well. I spent $5,800 last year. They can tell your YTD you should also always do the rewards if you spend more than $20 you get 10% off and you get $20 percent off on your birthday.........but that is here........I went to Abilene, Texas and it was very disorganized.l I did find a pair of Ugg's Australia for $10 in my size, so I scored on those. I need to do some returns tomorrow because I couldn't find my receipt tonight and thought it was in the bag and I have never forgot before, so I'm pretty confident they will let me return on the 15th day. I am sorry to hear of all your bad experiences. Maybe they will get new management and things will change.

Needed to return (wanted in store credit) for a few items my daughter bought for herself. They said no. How do they get by refusing to honor what they say? I mean they get items for free..people pay for these items and they make money and they won't let you have in store credit??? They are losing nothing!!!!!!

Yeah I just got back on my bike ride to the goodwill to return a pair of size 13 tennis shoes that were one of two pairs of size 13 shoes for my self . I also had purchased a pair of shorts at the same time yesterday about a little over 24 hour period later. Needless to say only one of the two pairs fit me comfortably enough to wear .they were priced at $25.00 as were the other pair of 13 'a. The shorts were also way to tight . They can't be a true 36 waist any how I read the return policy just before I left the house . I walk in the watt ave location where my roommates and I spend a good deal of $ in there . ( nowhere else just the location I mentioned above) As soon as I walked in the two woman behind the counter immediately proceeded to tell me that they have an all sales final policy . I was so angry I had to get away from there ASAP before I lost my temper. They were very ugly the way they had a,"oh well .sorry about my luck attitude . No compromising skills whatsoever . Very very sad to have been treated with the utmost disrespectful employees I've ever came across. What so ironic is that your non profit organization must be balling so big that you've forgotten what The name and meaning of "Goodwill" really means and stands for!!! What a pathetic performance!!!!!! Good job guys!!! I want to let you know that each and every one of you are all my biggest 0's(zeros) !!! Oh I'm sorry .Did i say zeros?I meant hero's. Sorry about that . Really no I meant numero uno zeros . After this I'm getting on Yelp . What a joke the way you guys are using that cover name for your proceedings. You'll never see another penny from me ever ever again ! I promise you that!!

Bought a humidifier on saturday realized I made a mistake...
I needed a de humidifier

Kept receipt, called two days later, was told no refund, no store credit.
I believe the return policy / store credit should apply to house hold items as well...not only clothing...
I am a regular at this store...

I believe that somewhere down the line these chain of stores have forgotten their purpose in this world..For a non profit organization that runs off of 100% donations for the means of helping the unfortunate people of the world to extremely pricey merchandise rude associates very informative associates extremely ridiculous return policy..NOT TO MENTION WHAT I JUST EXPERIENCED..I AM LIVID..I am standing in line waiting to check out and the gentleman in front of me was a HOMELESS VET who had a voucher from another organization trying to help the unformated which should have never been exposed to such things in life after risking his life for this pathetic greedy country but he is trying to buy a coat on a voucher and this lady at the register really had enough NERVE to tell him that the coat he wanted was not available on a voucher..ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME..YOU ARE GIVEN THIS COAT AS A GIFT NO COST TO YOU SO WHY THE HELL CANT HE BUY IT ON VOUCHER..I will never donate or purchase anything from these greedy ass people..I bought his coat and ripped the voucher up and handed it to her.. THAT WILL BE MY ABSOLUTE LAST DEALING WITH THEM.. PATHETIC..

I just returned some jeans I bought yesterday, since I eyeballed the sizes. Most I kept but had no problem getting in store credit for the ones I returned. There was no interrogation as to why, just gave them my ID and was able to go shopping and had it spent within a half hour. They state very clearly that you wont get your money back as money but be able to use it for something else in the store. At least all sales arent final. I was happy they accepted my jeans, so I could exchange them for other ones. Maybe Goodwill needs to call the return policy merchandise exchange and not credit. I think some people get confused as to what that means.

Cash grab Goodwill, scamming the American people with overpriced items. They're dressing rooms arnt open so I have to take a gamble on clothes and when I need to return it, the toothless crackhead worker give me in store credit on some gift card. I feel robbed and should receive the money back on my CC. Because I could try on the piece of clothing because covid is still lthere excuse for fitting rooms not being open.

Bought a cassette player that wound up not working, but on their physical receipt it said they would fully refund electronic devices within 7 days of purchase. When I went in to exchange it, they gave me a receipt for store credit. I asked about getting a full refund as it says on the receipt, person at the till says they don't do that. I didn't want to make a scene so I just accepted it. Now of course I lost the damn thing. So beyond frustrated, that's $30 that went towards absolutely nothing.

I am done with Goodwill prices are same as new. I bought a microwave for a family in need just to find out it doesn't heat up. I thought because it was new in box I was getting a decent deal. Nope and now they won't take it back. Theives that is all they are.

I am done supporting Goodwill. Please shop at the Salvation Army stores instead of supporting their fraudulent practices!!!
I have bought thousands of dollars in purchases from Goodwill over the years.
But the no as is and no return policies is absolutely unfair and ridiculous!
I bought at Goodwill because I was never able to buy at regular stores for full purchase prices. This is supposed to be a place where people can afford things.
I bought a electronic sewing machine for 130.00 and a robot vacuum cleaner for 46.99 (that the manufacturer will not provide a manual for when called because I didn't purchase from a regular retailer) and have to buy a battery, and charging station for because they were no good..
And a FitBit Charge 2 for 30 ..that was supposedly new...and won't work.
So I am out 200.00?????
Fraudulent...
If this is the policy...they should test and only sell products that actually work.
I AM ALSO FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE.

I WILL NEVER SUPPORT GOODWILL AGAIN AND I WILL ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO THE SAME AND I am posting this to social media.

There was no Return Policy posted anywhere in the store, and I was never informed of this policy when I made my purchase. Dressing rooms were closed due to Covid, so I couldn't try anything on. I tried to return clothes (with receipt and tags intact) the next day and they said no returns, not even for store credit. Spoke to a woman who acted as a manager. She basically dismissed my issue; said the no return policy was always in effect even before Covid, that the signs were posted at the check-out counter (which they were not), and that I just didn't look hard enough. Now I'm out $35. I have supported Goodwill in the past by donating goods and purchasing in-store. No more! I will give my support to another organization.

Posted by EsMom

I purchased several items of clothing which totaled to be a little over 40 dollars. Their dressing area wasn't available so I was told bring them back with tags still intact and your receipt and we'll refund it or depending on how long you'll get store credit at the least. So now 5 days later they're saying no on any return that they just had a meeting this morning about it. My thing is being I bought them before they should still allow returns for at least credit because I can't wear them so now that's more than half my money gone ? they wouldn't even look at my receipt because they didn't care nothing was going to get them to own up to their "once said" policy. Their clothing has increased way substantially anyways but I shop there being they donate 90% of the proceeds but now I don't even think that could keep me going.

Posted by No longer supporting Goodwill

If you can't try on clothing then cash refund is appropriate when you paid cash. You have lowered your standards to garbage.

Posted by Anonymous

What kind of store won't allow you to try on your purchase and then won't let you return it when it doesn't fit? I don't want store credit when I paid cash, cane right back in a day, and receipt and tags. If I couldn't find anything the first time I went through your rack what makes you think I can the second time? It's fraud you are given these for free and then mark them up to 15$ a shirt. Old used shirts. They aren't in prized condition or prized brands. I can buy new across the street at Freddy's and be able to try it on and be able to return. I won't donate any longer cus your non profit excuse is crap. You rely on customers treat them right. I threw my 30$ useless card out it's useless to me.

Goodwill Industries International
Central Florida's New Return Policy Sucks That Is Not Fair, I Should Be Able To Exchange A Pice Of Clothing That Did Not Fit, With The Proof Of Purchase The Next Day I Purchase. Their Prices Have Gone Sky High, Found Dollartree Items For Sale At $1.99 What! Incredible They Should Go Back To The Way It Was Before. This Is Supposed To Help People Out, Comeon! You All Are Getting The Stuff For Free, Dam! But Prices Are Like If The Stuff Is Brand Spanking New. Soon We Wont Be Able To Afford To Buy At Goodwill Anymore. Ughh!

Today I was shopping and was shocked when I was told no exchanges anymore, this is absolutely ridiculous, how about if an Item of clothing doesn't fit me?? What am I suppose to do? Why did you guys remove the exchange policy?? This is frustrating please change it back. I will no longer purchase from good will until they change it back

Purchased a 50inch tv from goodwill and hooked it up when I got home and 2weeks later I kept smelling something burnt and couldn't find it out till I got close to the tv and it was having a burned smell coming from the back I unplugged it just think had we kept using the tv it could have started a fire that's sad that they will sell items like this and it could have been worst I'm filing a complaint with the state attorney general this is unacceptable

Just shopped at Goodwill yesterday. No open dressing rooms? Bought a shirt the was way to large. Returned it today and was told I could only get store credit, even though I paid in cash and had my receipt and the item with tags still intact. Seems like a stupid policy. How is making you take an item home to try it on going to keep covid from being passed around. Seems like that would expose the item to more germs/virus than letting people try it on there.

Posted by Roger

Like others are saying. You cannot use the fitting rooms in these stores so you are buying blind. Everyone knows that if you are a size XL shirt or something, that that doesn't mean it's going to feel right on you. Their return policy is non-existent, it's a exchange policy instead. And they don't honor it half the time since their workers seem to make up their own rules. Some locations say that it is 14 day exchange policy due to fitting rooms being closed but if you go for a exchange past 7 days, then the worker will play dumb about it and say it is 7 days only.

It's a really frustrating experience and there is no Goodwill about it.

Posted by Anthony Vermacelli

I can't believe they won't accept returns or exchanges that's absolutely terrible and is a disgrace. I am done with Good Will forever if they stick with this new policy. That is some F'd up crap. Greedy mofos.

I have been a customer of goodwill for a very long time, this new rule can't exchange, refund anything!! I was floored to hear that!! I personally shop for others when their not even there! This is absolutely ridiculous!! They are not about helping people find jobs it's about corporate greed!!! What was the big deal about putting it in a gift card, it's just changing sooo much

You just lost me as a customer FOREVER. Fitting rooms closed, cant try anything & I return my some of my purchases that dont fit 2 days later for in store gift card only. Add me to the list of people who will no longer support Goodwill for their bad business practices. Add to that the fact that a local store told me that because they are a "private company," they don't have to comply with the ADA regarding disability accommodations. I will no longer donate money or goods to them, and will no longer shop at their stores. Honestly, some of their pricing (for used junk) is outrageous.

I just went to a Goodwill store in St. Louis Park, MN, a suburb of Minneapolis. It is now June of 2021. The CDC has lifted the mask mandate for fully vaccinated individuals, as has the governor of MN and most recently the mayor of Minneapolis. And yet all of Goodwill's dressing rooms were still closed at this store. I had literally just been to Target, which is across the street, and all of the dressing rooms there were open. Moreover, when I tried on a suit coat over my dress shirt and out in the open in front of one of their mirrors, a store clerk told me I could not try it on. Now, I'm not some anti-vaccination person at all. I have been careful throughout the pandemic and have followed the science. The research now is that the virus really can't be transmitted easily from clothing, if at all. Obviously the customers are touching the clothing on the racks and yet we can't try any of them on or even go to one of their mirrors and hold it up to see how we look? I was polite, but when I checked out the cashier said Goodwill's new stores have no changing rooms. Really? You expect people to purchase clothes in a store (as opposed to on the Internet ) and not be allowed to determine whether the piece of clothing fits and how it looks in a mirror? Start following the science and update your unscientific Covid policies. I will not return to a Goodwill store, and I have, over many years, donated generously to the organization. This all makes no sense!

Posted by Pam

I will not shop there or donate any longer. They completely took the dressing rooms out, then offer no refunds, no store credits..just find an item or items the same day you return the item to the store. Exchange only, and has to be the same day you bring item back to the store! of course within 7 days.

Posted by Anonymous

I was issued an instore credit card for some items I returned. Tried to use the card at a different Goodwill and was told it wasn't valid at this store. Isn't Goodwill, Goodwill? Guess Not!

Posted by No longer supporting Goodwill

I will no longer be supporting Goodwill, as your policies are not industry standard for a chain. If I buy something at one location, a customer service agent will help me get the right item at another location. But not at Goodwill. You can only return/echange it at the location you bought it. This isn't always practical, and terrible customer service example. Change your policies so they match what customers expect.

Posted by Matt

So let me get this straight. Your fitting rooms are closed so I can't try anything on. So I buy blind. Get home. Clothes don't fit. And now I cannot get a refund. This happened to me today. This is criminal.

Posted by Joyful

Since you do not have dressing rooms open for trying on for clothing think cash refund is fai4 versus credit.
Not sure if I would buy clothing again until tryon is option

Posted by Anonymous

Question? If every customer is touching most of your merchandise and your front entrance door and countertops explain to me how the fitting rooms are a danger its bullsh%t open your fitting rooms

Posted by Duke1966

Its kind of ridiculous that they are still taking clothing donations but not offering refunds to those who had purchased a piece of clothing. What's the difference?? So they will accept clothes for profit but not refund to loyal customers?

Posted by Unsatisfied Customer

I tried to take back a shirt I literally couldn't fit and because I took off the tag I couldn't return it. I had the tag AND the receipt with me SHOWING that I paid for it so saying it doesn't qualify for a return is BS. So what, I'm just supposed to keep a shirt that I paid for that I literally can't wear???

Posted by Linda

Dressing rooms are closed. It's hard to buy clothes without trying them on first. If you have COVID, you can touch everything in store but you can't try clothes on?? The store will not refund your purchase and no store credits exist. You have to buy something else right now. At least within 7 day period

Posted by Anonymous

Was told at my goodwill than I can not return any items even for store credit. Very unsatisfied. Lets hope my new work pants fit since the dressing rooms arent opened either.

Posted by Anonymous

The Goodwill Store of Seymour TN surely doesn't know what they are doing and contradicts your policy regarding returning of merchandise. I witnessed them giving a cash refund to a customer without a receipt.

Posted by seavalhalla

I was shocked when I found out yesterday the Goodwill store will issue a refund to the debit card I paid with within 7 days of purchase. I thought it was only store credit, but the receipt states otherwise.

Posted by Disappointed mom

Finally went to goodwill after 1 year. Dressing rooms still closed. Was told we could return items in 14 days but NO ONE told us it would o ly be store credit. We would not have bought anything if that was the case. She said it's been that for 6 months.
Then we should have been told at check out or signs posted...neither of which happened.
They have lost my family as customers as well now. Not good business practice.

Posted by PantslessManNow

They're not even doing exchange right now while the dressing rooms are closed for COVID (because obviously trying on clothes alone in a dressing room before you buy them is a major vector for disease.) So you buy something, it was the wrong size, I guess you can wear it as a hat, or just give it to a homeless person to smoke, or something.

For a nonprofit organization with the owner making 2.3 million in profit a year in his pocket from donated items that they resell do not give refunds or store credit over clothing that does not fit is ridiculous if not downright theft from their customers. Granted, they do give 87% of their money In charitable donations, but that doesn't change the fact that the millionaire owner takes advantage of the community that donates and buys if they do not allow for mistakes made by employees and customers over products. The old saying one man's trash is another man's treasure is true but if I pick up trash out of the dumpster or it's given to me by someone who doesn't want it well I've never made $1 million off of it let's put it like that in fact I've never resold any of it. I can understand having a time limit on returns maybe even the Assesors policy but if it's not tested and you're just throwing something out there and you're not sure if it works or not well don't sell it don't claim it to be something that it's night policies change from store to store they don't have a universal return policy even if it's stated on their website I can prove it quit taking advantage of your customers and hire people that are intelligent enough to know when somethings fixed broken new used or even trash.

DO NOT BUY from the "Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia" because they are selling broken items and covering self's from returns by saying "AS IS" - "NON-REFUNDBLE"!

Goodwill clothing online purchase returnable to local Goodwill Store?

If I purchase a clothing item via Goodwill Online, may I return it to a local store for a refund?

Posted by Anonymous

I had purchased several pairs of jeans for my daughter on Sunday October 11, 2020. The dressing rooms are closed due to Covid, so there was no way to try on clothes before purchase. The clerk did not mention that the purchases are Final Sale. Had I known I wouldn't have made the purchase. I tried to return the items on Monday October 12, 2020. Just One day after purchase and was told. NO Returns. I spoke to the manager who said clothes have never been returnable, but I know I have received store credit before. He also said it's printed on the receipt that clothes are not returnable which it is not. And he said there is an announcement on the stores intercom which there isn't.

If you are going to clothes the fitting rooms, then you have to allow returns.

Good will has lost a customer over this policy. I'm so angry and disappointed.

Posted by Adam2667

I totally understand that "sold as is " is the rule by which all sales are conducted at Goodwill. I also can see where the return policy stems from regarding purchases items. But, when good will inspect an item, price I it and display it for sale and the item turns out to be not what it's supposed to be, then I think the customer is totally illegible for his money. Either in cash or in store credit. I purchased this morning two charter club feather/down pillows still in their plastic bags with all marketing signs indicating the brand and everything. They are supposed to be filled with feathers. Which explains $24 each. When I got home and took the pillows out, I discovered that inside the pillow cases was nothing but another closed case filled with foam and nothing that looks like feathers. And evidently, the store manager was steady firm about not returning them ot even allowing me an in store credit. I do feel like I've been taken advantage of since they checked the items and priced them and represented them for what they are not. Can I call that false advertising? Not sure. But, the manager should have understood the situation and acted appropriately. After all. Goodwill is from the people and for the people. That's why I remained a faithful customer of it.

I have been donating and shopping at Goodwill for a long time now and always understood their return policy to bed 10 days with receipt and tickets attached. I had even bragged about the fact we could still return items there, when complaining about another thrift store. I went in there this past Thursday, bought $154 worth of clothing, knowing I couldn't try them on, but confident I could take back if they didn't fit. Not the case any more. So now I am stuck with $100 worth of pants that I can't wear and that will probably end up being re-donated, so they can turn around and sell them again. If you are not going to allow people to try things on, you should at LEAST allow an exchange. Everything in there has been donated, which means it is USED/WORN/BEEN IN PEOPLE'S HOUSES WITH GOD KNOWS WHAT, but now we can't return after a week, sometimes even just 1 day. Where is the logic in any of that?? They even have merchandise on the floor that is so stained, ripped, disgusting I wouldn't give it to my dog...like a pair of shorts I found that had old dried blood in the crotch!! I took them to the cashier and said "you can't sell these! THAT is a health issue, not trying on and returning if they don't fit!"

In store put big sign no cash for returns my sister bought clothes for work from here and they don't fit you have nothing else that she can where at work and now she has no money and no work clothes ?????????

I recently went to a goodwill and I was the third person within an hour to be charged for items I did not purchase. Then I had to give my ID to get my money back. Seems a bit shady. It's not a return if you're just giving me my money back for something I didn't get to begin with.

I, too, have just had trouble with COVID return policy and clothing. Exactly like the person who posted a little bit earlier on here. I can understand that the dressing rooms are closed right now. I was told I could RETURN the items within a week with the receipt. I tried to return them the next day, and was told by two people, in a snotty manner, that was not their policy and I could only have a store credit. Then, one of the items had not been rung up properly and wasn't on the receipt. Not my problem, but I had enough by that point. I've shopped Goodwill for 40 plus years. I've NEVER been spoken to in the way I was today. Am not returning to this GW, and am thinking about moving my business to Salvation Army.......

I returned a printer for not having a power cord within the box the day after purchase. Despite their policy the refund was place back onto my debit card but has yet to show back in my account

I tried to return a pair of jeans and a shirt that I purchased yesterday but the store wouldn't accept them because I bought them at a Goodwill 45 miles away. The clerk said they had to be returned to the same store. This is not what the clerk from thIs same store said 3 days ago when my visiting from out of state sister asked about the return policy. The clerk then said if anything didn't fit it could be returned to any Goodwill store. Now My sister has returned home and will be stuck with clothing that may not fit. Bad customer service.

I would hope that if Goodwill has a customer service that they would read these comments. I purchased some items on July 29th 2020. Because of covid all of their dressings rooms were closed which is understandable. I was under the assumption that I could take them home try them on and bring them back. (With tags still attached) When I tried to return them the next day the lady told me there was no returns. When I tried to explain I only wanted an in-store credit she cut me off and said no returns that I had to talk to the manager I went to go find said manager and I could not find them anywhere. there was nothing anywhere in the store posted saying that there is a no return policy at the moment. I am very frustrated and I feel like I just gave them free money. I've donated to Goodwill many times but I don't like going into their store buying something trying to return it with the tags still on and being told no.

I am the person who really love shopping at Goodwill because I love treasure hunting and people who work in Goodwill are so nice, sweet and friendly. I do not want to claim that I am the top spender, but I went shopping almost everyday and always bought too much. I respect the return policy but I want to tell something is not fair for buyer, especially electronic.
Many Electronic merchandise did not get test before putting on the shelves.
Even they were tested the power on, it does not mean they work.
I do not mind if I have to waste my money with not high price items.
I really understand and have compassion for workers because there are tons of donated items, it is too much for them.
You should consider about some return policy in some cases to be fair for customers.
Some items are very very high price. Just only plugs in to see they work is not enough.
You do not refund money, it disappoints and suffers many customers.
the most important things that hurt my feeling the most is the words from manager (I mean the way he talked to me).
He did not show some sympathy. I knew if he has to follow policy, just please do not show the words and action that you did not care about customers' money.
I am not rich and I have to work couple hours to buy one high price item, then lost my money because your unfair return policy.
First I thought we help and support each other.
Customer got good price stuffs and people and get jobs and education.
The manager said Goodwill paid for the next door. And he told me it was my choice to buy it.
I felt he threw the responsibility to the customer.
He might forgot that the donors and customers support Goodwill to run business, so you can help people.
I was done with talking to him and follow policy and tried to pay. he still kept saying until I have to ask him to stop and get over it.
Anyway, I just need compassion from you.
I hope you will listen to this little voice from your one tiny customer.

+++ Please have some games about top spender winner weekly and monthly. I think it is very interested. It will make me feel I want shopping more Lol.

Love Goodwill

I am vip member that means am always buying might have bought too much, on July 3 I went in to the store and was told that everything will be Sale July 4, on the sale day I purchased a 5x7 rug for the same price was hesitant I expected to pay the sale price and went outside to call a cleaner's on hearing the price to clean I said I will just put it back 2mins after purchasing, the rug for $60.00,the manager said I can't return, take store credit, I ask for some kind a prove to say I have a store credit they said the don't have anything to prove "suggestions for the Manager and cashier I should walk to different stores with the rug and the receipt for the next 7days to see if there is nothing else for $60". They claim they are not able to pull up my vip information to add the credit, so guess I lost $60 right away. How can I walk with 5x7 that is full of dust to different locations just to see if GOODWILL HAVE ANYTHING FOR $60.

FORT MYERS FL THIS IS SO SAID IF IS WAS SOMEONE HAVE A DIFFERENT ETHIC BACKGROUND IT WOULD BE HANDLED MUCH BETTER. I WILL REMAIN HUMBLE BLACK AND BEAUTIFUL. I JUST WENT BACK TO THE DROP OFF ON THE SIDE OF THE SAME STORE AND DONATED THE GROUND AND O YES I WILL GO BACK IN THE STORE AND WHAT THE WILL BE SELLING IT AGAIN FOR MY $60. Bought several tops at a Goodwill In North Carolina. Due to Covid the dressing rooms are closed so you are told it's ok to try them on at home and return the ones that don't fit for a store credit. No problem right? Wrong. Turns out if the person who rings you up doesn't code them exactly right - as in a blouse vs a shirt vs a sweater - when you try to do a return they will only give credit for what exactly matches the receipt. As in - If you need to return a couple shirts, a blouse and a sweater but they were mostly lumped in as 'shirts' when rung up and paid for - well now you get less than the right amount of store credit even though it was their mistake. We returned the very same items we'd bought- no cheating or switching out. It felt frustrating and sad.. IF GW cares at all, they could train their people even better than before Covid and take time to help them understand why it matters. I'd hate to think it's intentional. We're not upset with the checkout person who maybe was rushing and did their best. If we shop at a Goodwill again and if we may need to do a return, we will pay way more attention to how our clothes are coded and rung up. Or maybe now is the time to move to Salvation Army

I received 2 items for my birthday in March. Since I am a senior and was sheltered at home and gbe fact that the stores were also closed could not return the items. Today I donated a car load of items and went inside to return the items for a store credit. They said they have a no return policy. Your website does not state that. Is this fair since your stores were closed and we were quarantined?

I just tried to return a pair of shoes. It was in the return period. They refused saying they are not doing returns now and would not take them back in the future. I will not shopping there now or in the future NOR will I be donating to them again.

I just purchased a pair of Coach flats at Goodwill in Plano 6/6/2020. Shoes should be a flat rate of $6.99 unless otherwise marked. They charged me $13.98 and no where on the shoe is it marked to charge that much. The cashier just arbitrarily decided to mark them up because she thought they were cute and even made a comment about it. Goodwill and their employees are shady. I will take my business to the other local thrift stores that actually do good for the community and have way better prices.

The new store on Shelbyville is "new" and clean. However, I desired to purchase a pure there. I found one, but was too high for me to see clearly and was attached so could not be taken down. I told the clerk I wanted to buy the bag. She took it down but would not allow me to take with me as I shopped further. I have never had this experience before! When I left, I paid a high price for the used purse. It was put in the bag and when I got home I saw it clearly. DAMAGE to the top part that I was not allowed to see when I picked it out. I am so disappointed. Be VERY aware of purchases and the "in store" credit for exchanges with tags and receipt are not always honored.

I recently bought quite a few things from goodwill and once I got home I noticed one jacket is quite literally falling apart at the seams and I paid 20 for it. Tried to take it back but they said that even with original receipt and tags still attached that they won't take it back and no in store credit or anything. It's up repairable since it is silk embroidered. With that amount of damage to a garment it shouldn't not have been on a hanger let alone $20.
20 might not be a lot to some people but for me with a family of 4 during these times every bit counts.
I'm just kind of frustrated. I bought it on Saturday and tried to bring it in today which is Monday. :/

Visited several Goodwill stores last week on my day off. Today I went to return 2 blouses to one of the stores. The girl at the counter called manager as usual to approve the rtn but instead she took my items and receipt to the back and asked me to wait a moment. When she returned she informed me the 2 items were not the ones purchased on the receipt. I realized they must have come from one of the locations I visited on my outing. But I am curious. How did they know? Do they have video, facial recognition or what from the date and time on receipt? Strange. Anyone have an answer?

So my experience with Goodwill and their return is they are full of it they try to charge me a $55 restocking fee on an item that I paid $30 for it which is not a sale item I just wanted in store credit but they wanted to charge me that the nominal fee their nonprofit organization yeah right give me a break they try to charge now they used to be very good and all their sales you still go to Goodwill and used to get a deal you can bet your clothes you can get on a low budget somebody who doesn't make a lot of money but now I'm sincere in the new times they go online and they look at the new price and they try to charge you a new price for donated item that's already been used they are absolutely out of their mind and outrageously and their prices I can't believe that more people are complaining about how high their prices are to them this is my opinion but I stand by it that's why I don't shop there anymore there you go

We have two thrift shops in our neighborhood, Goodwill being just one of them. The other one serves vets, & everyone I know prefers it for several reasons. I was reminded of this today when I shopped at Goodwill for some extra dining chairs for company we have coming, found two, but the man working there wouldn't put them in my trunk for me! He said it was "against regulations"! Very strange considering I also purchased one chair at the other store earlier in the day, & not only did they OFFER to load it into my car, but THEY used their own twine to secure everything. Customer service does not exist at "Goodwill".

They sell items that are incomplete or broken w no warning but WILL NOT EVEN EXCHANGE THE MESSED UP ITEMS . They are rude and unprofessional. The store bathrooms are always disgusting as well . I highly recommend not bothering to go to that particular goodwill store they give goodwill a bad name there for sure !!!!!

At the Prattville Alabama store, l have ALWAYS had good buys but on 12/1/2019 l purchased several items including 2 pair of really good walking shoes. I asked if these items didn't work out could l return. The clerk said as long as l returned in the 7 days policy & had a receipt, l could. Well, on 12/4/2019 l tried to return & exchange 1 pair of does $6.99. The clerk said no they couldn't & checked with another clerk who stated it was a health department issue. So my question to her was * so, l was told wrong when l specifically asked. Also you can sell used shoes but can't exchange them. That doesn't make sense to me*. I will continue to shop & get over this $loss. I will find someone else to wear them. I am disappointed with this explanation. Just wanted all to be aware of this.

Goodwill is a ripoff. For a "non profit" the owner makes millions off peoples donations. Salvation army is the best. They are out to help people.

I bought new items from a nearby goodwill store. Unfortunately, Some of the new pieces I did buy did not fit. They were for some family members. I called ahead before going to see what the policy was. The lady I spoke to said I could get a refund for my items. Upon arrival the manger ( a different lady), said I could not get a refund. I then asked if I could get store credit and she said they don't do that. She stated that all new purchases are final sale.

I've always had a great experience with Goodwill. However, I purchased a Halloween costume, as I do every year, and the item was breaking and getting the red material all over my skin, which was also itchy. I only had the product for one day and unfortunately cannot return it.

I love thrift shopping. Especially at Goodwill. I also work in high end retail. And love to consign: resell and rebuy high end so I understand the concept of quality control. Damage and loss prevention and handling the merchandise. I have a really big CONSISTENT issue with how the company is tagging merchandise damaging perfectly good quality merchandise that is otherwise in immaculate condition or brand new putting holes in it because they're either careless or not trained in how to tag/sensor seams or tags in the garment.

Purchased glass measure cup. Once home while cleaning found broken glass in lip. Returned to store told no refunds or exchanges. Note:no signs displayed to inform public. I explained concern Goodwill would sell items that could cause harm to unsuspecting clients.

Posted by Confused Customer

I bought a $9.99 pillow for my dad and didn't notice it was ripped until I was at home. I went back to the same store and cashier on the same day, literally just 2 hours after the purchase and they denied it saying that it was a final sale, no refund item. Goodwill really should put a sign saying when it's doing sales and no returns. Thought thrift stores were nice until now.

So I understand good will's return policy and that they all their clothing they have what they called double marked or double tagged. I've gone to the goodwill in the last 5 days 3 days of the 5 and I tried to return something yesterday and the manager
came and he it was kind enough to return it eith store credit the items they did take. and so I proceeded with my shopping after getting my in store credit and the manager came and found me to let me know in a very rude way I thought that if I was to return anything there ever again I would be 86 from the store because none of that stuff was bought there because it wasn't double marked I purchased 4 more shirts that night and low and behold look at that they're not double marked either so I'm going to be going into day to purchase some items ones that ive find items that are not double marked. Than I'm gonna make sure the cashier when I go to pay for it has checked everything to make sure there's a double take because this is not OK I buy 4 mire shirts not one was double tabs so I can't return them because ill be 86 from the store when I spend hundreds of dollars a

every year I spend at Christmas time I go in at least 2-3 times a month and I spend 300 bucks for I will just very upset with the way the manager handled this because I've only return things twice to the goodwill this was my 2nd return ever in The Dalles Oregon and I just felt like this was inappropriate in every way

I was in your store on Friday found some great bargains and I've known the return policy but the manager said there were no refunds all sales were final. Is this store the only one that all sales are final I've shopped your stores all the way up to Kansas and had never been told that.

I donate tons of stuff to our local Goodwill and have had trouble multiple times returning non working items and things that don't fit. I'm all for non profit organizations who help people however I think it's sad that the people who give and give to help make them possible get treated this way over things that are donated in the beginning. The return policy definitely needs to be changed. Also, I have seen so many clothing items with broken buttons and zippers and the worst is dirty clothing. Unacceptable...

I understand the good this organization does for communities. I also have no problem with in store credit for a return. However the tax you played should be in loaded in store credit. When not, they collect tax twice. Once on the original product and again when you use the in store credit. This is the issue I find with this corporations store refund policies. Double tax.

Goodwill is fraudulent, I purchased a new bedsheet on the 5th of November from the Katella by Magnolia store, got home and found out size was small, went back to the store for an exchange but was flatly refused.
First bedsheet bought was $11.99, found out that the correct size was worth $19.99 and expected to pay the difference but was informed that Goodwill Orange's policy is different from Goodwill's policy, really laughable and ridiculous. I hope someone can help as I had to leave the store with the 2 bedsheets as the return was rejected outrightly.

Goodwill policies are not acceptable if you use a debit or credit card on your purchases. I do not go their often and in Phoenix metro area in store credit. They should put notice of their refund policy on the door or by the check out register. Having a receipt and having tags on them still you are double dipping the consumer. It is not the customer fault you had 1000 of old television and
Electrical equipments in. A storage facility costing goodwill a lot of money. Thank you

I don't question those complaints registered here; but as a Goodwill customer for the past 70 years I obviously think they're at least "okay". Recently, prices (here in Warrenton/Astoria Oregon) have been going up at Goodwill, and I am changing my method of selecting items.
Here's my suggestion of what you can do when you return and item an have a credit slip. At my local store the Goodwill credit slip is useable for about 2 weeks (maybe longer - I have to read the slip each time.... my bad memory is to blame).
Before that time is up, if I don't find something I'd really love to buy, I can just buy Something (something I know is returnable)! I can keep the item and its sales slip in my car. I then have the next couple of weeks (at my G'will store) to look for something else to buy. Each purchase gives you another stretch of time for shopping with each "new" credit slip. Even so, I've never had to do this, because near the time limit, I have been lucky and found something I liked :-)

Goodwill return policy has got to go it has got to stop. I purchased a $30 mirror that should've had Bluetooth and light up, but it did nott. I should have looked in the box, And asked to plug it in, but I did not. $30 down the drain. I think I'm about done with Goodwill paraphernalia. It's just not worth it to lose that kind of money. Trying to buy something in the store to replace it I paid seven dollars for two make up brushes. I'm done I'll purchase these items in the store at least they'll take it back if it doesn't work. The item I purchased was returned within the first four hours, I believe it was more like two hours I took it right back to the store. Summerville South Carolina Goodwill

Goodwill's return policy is ridiculous. Only allowing returns on clothes is unacceptable. If Goodwill didn't overprice their stuff I could see a policy such as this but this is simply not the case. Goodwill puts unreasonable prices on housewares, furniture, ect. Example: purchased two collectable figures a day ago only to find on line that they WAY WAY WAY over priced the figures. What I bought was very dirty and chipped and today I find online I could have bought the same product brand new for $6 more. Talk about ripping your customer off. They have lost my business.

I purchased a rather large item yesterday. Cost was $30. I have a very hard time fitting it in my car so I TRIED to return it today. I looked around to see if there was anything else I wanted. And there wasn't. I then asked for a store credit voucher to go to another store and they refused.
They said they had never heard of such a thing. I was told to put this large item back in my car and take it to another store.
I even told them the internet states that I could get a gift card for the item (store voucher) I had the original receipt with me. Please review your policy with every Goodwill store. I am a senior and it is most difficult to wrestle the item into my car just to take it to another store. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need information on location of store.
I frequently shop at Goodwill. And this is the first time I have ever tried to return a item.

If they cannot guarantee an item works or his functional or not broken at the time you purchase it and cannot provide adequate display to show this condition, then I think they should and equivocally provide a refund of the purchase price.
As it stands today when you buy something there and return it even literally five minutes later, they've got your money and they will not give it back . That, coupled will their 501 C-3 status for nonprofit makes to be a extremely profitable corporation I would say . I don't know of any other retail organization that can get by with that, and the signs are coast to coast with all their new fancy buildings on premium lots that they're putting in .

1) I attempted a return to the Goodwill in Medford OR 5 days after my purchase. I was told there was a three 3 day limit in their return policy. Since the clothing items I had purchase did not fit I had no choice but to leave them there with no store credit or return. Then I read on-line there is a 7 day return window.
2) The same store in Medford OR will not refund a cash payment for goods but will only give a store credit. However they will give cash back on a credit card purchase that is returned. This seemed a little backward. Does cash not count?

HELP! I bought clothes for my aunt. She didn't like them. Took them back two days later with receipt. The Supervisor told me repeatedly that they do NOT do store credit!? And that if I wanted to return my items I had to shop and exchange them for equal items! I'm in Leesburg Florida and everyone of the online store policys say that they will give store credit on theatores card, so I finally convinced her to put it on my good will store card. She said firmly that she would only do it this one time?! I'm not rich and my practically invalid aunt is SO picky. Shopping for her chould be easier than this, right? I told them that I had no time during the next month to come back and shop and that I had no time that day to shop, I just had enough time to stop in to make an exchange before the exchange deadline. Are returns supposed to be this way?

We went shopping at goodwill. Found a small child's bookshelf and a crib in box. Bought them, brought them home, and LO! The bookshelf box contained only the shelves, none of the 4 supports for it, and the crib had only the sides, not the ends. Money down the drain because staff obviously doesn't check, and they throw a fit if you try to take anything out of a box to examine it in store.

And I bought two electronics on sale for 50%. When I got back to home and checked was broken. I went to store right away and request a refund. They refused because it was on sale items.. i wasted $80 in the air. Wow they only have greedy excuses.

Sale Items (clothes) cannot be returned for store credit?? Why not when you are only going to get the same amount as credit that you paid anyway. I don't see the logic behind this policy because the clothes are not any different than what is in store just the color tag was on sale. This is why I love Savers. You get a discount coupon when you donate. Goodwill gives back NOTHING! Goodwill is trying to imitate Savers by having these "color code" sales and then they screw you by stating you can't return them. Wow, I agree ---GREEDY!! San Pedro/RPV - Los Angeles County

Posted by An Ex-Loyal Customer

I once was one of Goodwill's most loyal customers; however, after the return policy was changed, I stopped shopping there. I purchased all of my family's clothes and would only return them if they did not fit after they tried them on at home. Dragging my whole family shopping with me is not an option. Being unable to exchange anything is too risky and no longer a good deal if something is wrong.

Shame on you Goodwill for being greedy and self-serving. You do not care about your customers and your business will suffer.

I'm done shopping at Goodwill. They are the worst charity I've ever encountered. I will never donate another sock, shirt or skirt to them ever again. Sick and tired of seeing 2.99 price tags on Dollar Tree items, 3.99 on microwave-trashed plasticware, cracked plates and burned teflon pans -- they are selling free magazines for .99 and a can of Campbell's tomato soup for 1.99! Something is very wrong with this charity. They should be investigated. This is fraud

Goodwill needs a new name Badwill for PROFIT Only. I used to be a regular customer but not anymore. Prices are sometimes higher than in the store and refund policy is ridiculous. Case in point....I looked at an item with original store sticker $1.99---Goodwill sticker 2.99. I asked them why I couldn't get it for $1.99. Response-we need to make money too. Really!!!!
How much is the CEO making? Never round up your purchase---it's a joke!

Goodwill in sunnyside wa, will never shop there again. Bought clothes for my step daughter. Clothes did not fit, took back three days later with original receipt. The lady said the items did not match the receipt. Everything was original. The employee told me she would not except anything. Then told me I could never exchange anything in the future and that they had cameras. I felt so offended I didn't know how to react. I will never go back. My sister said she would have made a fit, but I was with my baby and did already felt humiliated and embarrassed. I tried to explain, but the employee was rude and kept interrupting me.

Can I exchange my men suit I bought and never wear 1day

I bought 3 pairs of shoes. Took the sticker off bottom because I was told no returns unless I had the sticker. Since I wore the shoes I put the sticker on the receipt. Wore one pair one time and they fell apart. Tried to exchange and store manager told me sticker had to be on shoe. When I explained that I wore the shoe one day and the sticker would have fallen off she still refused exchange. I have called district office...doubt they willl call back. Will never shop there again.cgnt

Goodwill is DISGUSTING IN GREED.the ceos make millions off of over pricing donated items. When buying a jacket i get home and find that its sleeves are too short for my husband. I go back the next day to exchange it and the man points to this tiny sign behind him that says no returns or exchanges. Thwy should make that clear when you are first purchasing.

People shop here because they don't have the money to buy new, and yet you throw whatever is donated into your shelves not knowing if it works or not. I don't know how you price things, if you don't even know if it works. I bought a DVD player for my daughter's room, paid $10 and it didn't even work, that's just not right, all I have to say is goodwill sells what people "donate" they dont don't even check if it works, then have a no return policy, just a bunch of rip offs!!!

I hate the new return policy in Tennessee. I bought two steam carpet cleaners at the Jackson store. They looked brand new. They ran when they were plugged in but when I went to use them , neither worked. The hoses were blocked or the suction wouldn't work or something. Had to toss both of them. What a waste of money. At least they were half price so I only paid $4.99 each but I'll never buy electronics from goodwill again.

Now! I have always donated to good will that must run it to the thousands of Dallas over the years. When asked to downate after buying something to the rounded up amount, I do so. Just brought back a item that did not work! They refuse to give me my money back! This is premeditated fraud! Than I find out that the CEO's are getting paid houndreds of thaousonds of dollars. I will do no more business with these fasacest pigs!

Sooo.... the Goodwill in Fayetteville TN told me they don't do refunds at all or exchanges anymore. I don't know that I'll be going to goodwill from now on because of this. It always kind of irked me about the double taxing, & the false advertising (items in the wrong box or items broken inside boxes that you can't open till you buy it). But it didn't bother me too much because I knew if I got a dud I could always take it back and find something else. Apparently not anymore. So your telling me that I give you stuff to sell, pay taxes on your merchandise when its all already had the tax paid on them, and donate my money to Goodwill and this is how they gonna be?? I don't think so, your messing up Goodwill.

Returned an item at the West Covina store on the corner of Amar and Azusa. I bought an electrical item that didn't work and it was the 7th and last day for the return. I didn't have time to shop around when I was in there for the return so I requested store credit for another time. They said no and were treating me like I was crazy. They told me to take it back to another store. I was not able to get store credit unlike their own store policy states. When walking out I threw the item in the trash can. They were so rude. Never stepping foot in there or any Goodwill store again. Oh and they wouldn't give me my receipt back

Bought a coffee pot worked fine one time now I find out it's leaking water/coffee all over my counter. Sounds like I'm out my $7 since its been over 24 hours and it's electric. Going to go throw it in their parking lot in the morning.

Why do we have to pay taxes twice on used items? Let alone they try to tell us that they don't mark prices on the items they get in. Find something with no price on it and watch them take it to the back and put a price on it. One mentioned depending on how they fell that day that is how they mark the prices on the items. If He/She is mad the prices are marked up. If they are having a good day they mark the prices down.

The sad part is now the prices on the used items are now higher than a brand new one at Wal-Mart and other places. No need to stop by and buy broken items only to be forced to get a store credit. No thanks, give me my money back.

They pay people to check the items before putting it out. But it seems no one does it. 99% of the time there is a different item in the box than what it shows on the outside. Then they have the nerve to put a sign up not to open the packages up. As bad as Goodwill is you have to open the package to even see if it works let alone not be damaged or have some of the parts in it.

I will never buy or shop at Goodwill again. High prices, crappy customer service. Double taxes and give me a gift card for selling me a broken item. Take it back and the next day it is back on the shelf waiting for someone else to buy it. I guess they hope that they next buyer will just throw it away and not bring it back.

Goodwills CeO makes millions yet the stores he runs-which also serve low income popukations with affordable goods - cannot come up with a better return policy that shoukd at least have a 36 hr window to return the goods for a full 100% refund CHOICE not just an in store credit you must use that day! And the Manager was rude TO A 60 YEAR OLD RETIRED GRANDMA IN FRONT OF HER GRANKIDS,,!

I USED to be a fan of GW. I convinced a lot of people to start shopping there. UNTIL these rediculously shady policy changes went into effect. I used to shop at GW a few times per month, now I won't waste my time and neither will anyone I can worn about your rip off prices and return policies. The last time I was there I noticed you only have 75% off tag sales on Tuesday now and none on Sunday,or Monday. I also noticed that your prices are beyond ridiculous but even more or the same as new. I purchased a CD/radio only to get it home and find out the CD player doesn't work. I brought it back and was told that I would only be able to get in store credit. What? I was never told that they were going to change this. As far as in store credit goes, I won't be coming back to use it. I took the radio back from the cashier (so they couldn't re- sell it. Everything you get is donated! No you have to double charge people. My friend was looking for a used board game and I told her if she wanted to waste her money make sure to sit there and un -tape all their games in boxes to check that everything was there and that everything worked cause she can't return it. I'm sure that you have added testing stations so that people can test all electronics, things that need to be plugged in, and open anything taped up. You've made enough money off of used, over priced, ripped, and just flat out crap stuff.

Where was my in store credit. I got Jack at the register. I exchanged my shoes that the soles fell apart on the moment I put them on for a couple sodas. I had about 3.50 extra and was forced to spend it in the store that moment...in the checkout line. I bought a strangers books. Then I still had 53 cents left and the cashier kept asking me to donate it! I had to leave my goodness!

I returned to Goodwill in Lebanon TN within a week of purchase to exchange two too-small shirts I'd bought there for my husband, only to be told they don't accept exchanges! In my memory Goodwill has not issued refunds for returns, but they have indeed allowed exchanges. Is this a new across-the-board policy, or couid it simply be a result of the grasping nature of this particular franchisee (whose prices seem ridiculously high anyway)?

Posted by Anonymous

I went to return an item and the cashier had told me that it's been more than 7 days of the purchase. I was like yeah I know, figured that returns were like any other store of at least 30 days. She apologized but still couldn't help me. It's not like I wore the item or took the tag off, was disappointed that I had to walk out of the store. So glad that I hadn't made a big purchase, but it's still upsetting that they couldn't even offer a store credit. Beware of the time of your purchase because it's only 7 days that they allow you to return an item! Ridiculous in my opinion.

I bought a mocicrowave there and while I understand that those products are sold "as is" I plugged it in and let it run for a full min. It seemed fine and there were other people trying to use he outlet so I bought it and brought it home. It turns out the whole top of the inside of it is blackened and the vents inside as well...like it had caught on FIRE at some point. I hadn't realized this since I was trying to get out of the middle of the aisle so people could use the outlets.
So yeah I get the whole as is thing but I did everything I could to make sure it worked ok and do your sticker not inspect things?? Of course not. That's why you sell broken stuff all of the time. I don't care where the money goes..people that shop here usually do so because they can't afford retail prices and are willing to buy into your crap about "helping people" when we all know where the money goes. The founder. Most of it anyway. Naturally the company has to pay its workers. Hence your whole crap about "providing jobs". Let me let you in on something...EVERY store provides jobs. You shouldn't sell broken things and not allow at least store credit on them. Now I'm out that money and buying another one will be that much harder. Thanks for that

I received "in-store credit" and was never advised there was an expiration date, nor did the card I was given indicate one (Goodyear AZ, Estrella Parkway store). I returned several months later to use it only to discover at check out that it has "expired" less than a month prior and while the cashier said this to me she slid the card into the drawer (did not even return it to me so I could challenge it). When I expressed my surprise of "an expiration date" the cashier even said "I didn't know they expired either". I told her this was very disappointing and I will have to consider any future purchases considering my loss of $15+. Ironically after checking out and receiving this receipt it now displays the new return policy and states you have 6 months to use any "in-store credit". Not sure when the policy was instituted as I don't recall seeing this on my previous receipt but more unbelievable that the staff was not aware of their own policies.

Charged me 2 times and when I went back with receipt and bank statement the next day, guy says that check would be mailed! A week later I call to see what happened! Manager Chris says he received approval to refund in store! I go there, and he had lost the receipt! The woman who double-charged me stood at her register mean mugging me! I waited 30 minutes & ended up in 5pm traffic! He was apologetic, but I called him an hour prior so I don't understand that! I also noticed that the prices are getting to be ridiculous for donated items!

I want to start by saying I am a longtime GW fan. BUT, after leaving the Lakewood Ranch store yesterday I am quite confused.

How can it be legally and morally right for a store to be able to sell the same item twice at my loss ?

Thursday I purchased a sofa for $70.00 and I left it there till I could return the next day with my truck. Something (I could explain in detail in a pm) totally unexpected and out of my control came up and I was unable to pick it up. BUT I did personally go back to the store in the allotted 24 hours and ask for a manager and explained what happened. He did appear sympathetic but told me the best he could do was extend me another 24 hours and if I didn't pick it up by then it would go back on the floor for sale . That was nice of him but It was still impossible for me to pick it up until two days longer than he offered.

I even offered to pay a storage fee or take a store credit and was told "no" to both.

So in a few more hours I am out my $70.00, AND have no sofa.......while the store has BOTH the $70.00 and the sofa AND can resell the sofa for ANOTHER $70.00 ?!!!!!!

It just doesn't seem right that they come out ahead over my misfortune. Sigh......

Great News! I posted a few days ago about my Panasonic DVD Theater System and Sony Video Camcorder Return and how I was only left with an in store credit. We'll, to make a long story short I reached out to corporate who directed me to the Store Manager Jenny. I spoke with her and she has been extremely helpful and professional and has worked with me in my situation. I believe when someone goes out of their way to help they should be recognized. Great Job Lumberton NJ store in working things out for this customer. #Satisfied Customer

They have changed everything , tag sale limited to Tuesday only now instead of sun, mon, tue,

I need more than one day, I'm busy on tuesday's , also only 75% off instead of 1.99.

coupon greed, no when you donate something your coupon is only good for 20% of a used item nothing new from target can you use your coupon on.

New return policy stinks , store credit only , Really !!!

Better build bigger stores because you are going to need them for all the stuff now that you've off all your customers ,

Disappointed to learn about the change to Goodwill's return policy. I have always "rounded up" but don't think I'll be doing that anymore.
I have admired GW for providing folks with limited means a shopping alternative. The return policy was part of special customer service & treating customers who may not have options with dignity. This change takes away that special treatment.
Changing your return policy draws a line in the sand--whether GW is a nonprofit or a retail business. Since you've made a decision in favor of business, my Charitable round up will go elsewhere.

I purchased a Panasonic DVD theater system for $99 dollars and a Sony Camcorder for $25 dollars and was told by the cashier that I could return items within 24 hours if it did not work. We'll, you probably can guess what happened - neither worked. I wasted no time and brought both back within a couple of hours to find out that they could only give me an in-store credit that will only last within 30 days. If I knew this I would have never taken the risk of this purchase. I feel whoever checked the incoming items failed me as well as the cashier for not informing me. Dissatisfied Customer.... I can't stand being asked to round up on my purchase. If the money was going to the underpaid staff rather than to increase upper managements' salaries, I would be inclined to donate. The refusal to give a refund on items returned within a 7 day period is infuriating. I will no longer be able to buy for family members who have me watch for specific things because of the no refunds. I hope those who agree with their newly instated no refund policy speak up! I won't be shopping there as much anymore.F

Possibly their customer base should all start protesting by not "rounding" purchase amounts up and donating the extra change like they always ask you to do at the end of the sale. This may get their attention!!

I purchase 2 sets of dinner plates and 2 sets of matching salad plates for $9.00 each totaling $36.00 plus tax. When I got them home and removed all the plastic they were wrapped in 9 out of 18 of them were cracked or chipped. They had put the best plates on the outside. This is a blatant scam to hide the broken items. When I took them back the next day I was told No Refunds. I suggest you remove all of the plastic wrap they put around thier items to cover the damage. This has happened several times on other itemd but I never returned them. This was Alot of money for broken China. I now still have to go out and buy more China because there was not even enough unbroken pieces to make a matching set. I was told at the store that I should redonate all of it because someone else would probably be happy to buy it.I draw social security and cannot afford to throw away money like that.

you have to sue in small claims court to get the attention, they cant be selling defective items, i bought a luggage bag and the zipper was broken, I sued them for gross negligence because all of their worked are mentally retarded, and they are knowingly and willfully aware of that exact fact, they must have manager oversight when checking zippers on items for example by a manager who is mentally normal, the judge agreed and i got my 26.00 back

Okay I live in Hot Springs Arkansas and I bought a projector from the Goodwill store there on Central Avenue and when I got it home it did not even power up furthermore I had to go and buy a power supply from Walmart which I knew that I could take back and get my money back if I had any issue with the power supply and knowing that Goodwill policy was exchanges within 14 days are good for store credit only after I got the receipt I went to the store prepared to do battle to get my money back because I would not have spent $40 on this projector had I been able to test it before I left the store and I was going to ring them anew one if they didn't give me my money back which I really expected that they wouldn't per their policy comma and I was very surprised when they actually look at receipt and saw that I paid and gave me a cash refurefund!!! I called them before I went to take the projector back to see if they were going to be open and she told me on the phone that I couldn't get a cash refund and Only store credit so I'm not sure exactly what wind down in this scenario but I think I'm pretty sure God stepped in so I didn't have to lose my composure and cause a stink in front of everyone but I will say to Goodwill you should post your refund policy somewhere on the wall before people make a purchase so they can't say they didn't know until after the purchase

I just left Goodwill and they told me they will not accept returns on electronic items...altho they also say they are tested before they put them on the floor....so the deep fryer that's lid will not open was tested? It was taped up inside the box, so it's not something I could have seen. I will be pitching a fit when I take it back...also the car vac that doesn't work....I go regularly for a booth I have, but this has me beyond discouraged with them.

I Will Also Not Be Shopping At Any Goodwill Due To Their Selfish Money Hungry Ways. I Spend Over $5,000 A Month Re-selling For A Local Consignment Shop, And I Purchase Bulk, I Dont Have The Time To Go Theough Hundreds Of Items When Purchasing And Inevitably I Always Miss A Stain, Rip, Tear Or Malfunction. At Least Continue To Let Customers Exchange Something, You're Not Losing Anything But Another Customer Due To This Policy Change. Goodwill? Really? You All Have Nothing To Lose And Everything To Gain. What A Corrupt Business And Corporation.

I bought a 37 LG TV at Goodwill Store at 5880 Edinger Ave, Huntington Beach, CA 92649, lastbMonday afternoon. Asked the Manager to test, she said no need because all items are tested before. If there isbany problem I have 7 days with the receipt to return and be refunded.Got home and the Tv is not working. Went back to the Store returned the item and the Manager fid nit gave my money back. Gave me a personal Store Credit to spend in all Goodwill. This is unacceptable because the item was told working is broken. How could you guys sell broken items saying it was tested and will refund your money back if it is not working. I want the 37 LG TV that I bought working or my money Back.

Goodwill, you can claim you are doing this to protect your employees all you like, but in reality, you are only hurting yourselves with this ridiculous new policy. So many people and organizations rely on the ability to return things when they do not work, or do not fit. Not everyone can try things on in the store, or use in-store credit. You should expect to see a major drop in clientele because, let's be honest, we are angry and fed up with your selfish changes!

Posted by Upset

Goodwill's no refund or exchange policy will certainly have an affect on my purchases. My wife and I buy for out grand daughter with the confidence that if it did not fit we could bring the items back for refund or exchange. I was buying cloths for my adult children as well. My wife and I spend $200/$300 or more a month at Goodwill but no longer. If we don't love it and it fits we don't buy it. We stopped buying cloths for anyone other than ourself. If you but it....You own it. I don't think Goodwill has a clue how much merchandise is being purchased for other people other than themselves. We won't be spending nearly as much as we use to and probably not be visiting Goodwill as often now. Bad business decision....Bad judgement to change their policy.

Posted by rickster

Not sure who's running things lately, but this chain of thrift stores is going down hill with their return policy. I have bought many items over the years at their stores and have occasionally returned an item with a full refund each time. This fair policy had always made me feel free to purchase even high-end items without fear of losing money because of an unexpected reason to return a purchase. With this one sided, customer unfriendly return policy, I will no longer gamble a high-end purchase ever again, and will most likely not purchase much from goodwill in the future. Goodwill is shooting themselves in the foot with this unfair policy. Sales will surely fall until they realize having a fair return policy is why they were popular and successful.

Posted by Jade. Lynn

I was informed today that Goodwill will no longer except returns on anything in the store you purchase. I buy clothes for my kids and I can't do that anymore because they may not fit or they may not like it. Seems ridiculous to me and we donate all the time. This was the store in Lexington, TN.

I purchased a stereo surround sound system at the transit road store in Depew NY for 65.00 that didn't work at all. I called the manager and after I explained my situation I was told to bring it back in. I returned to the store at the agreed time and was told that they do not issue returns for electronics that power on. This unit not only is missing parts and does not power up either. Prior to purchase I asked if there was any thing wrong with it and was told it worked and was complete. I'm still awaiting a decision from the manager who says he doesn't have the authority to issue a refund or credit.

When I purchase a used item, I assume I am risking losing my money. When I got home with 8 pair of pants that should have fit my son according to the manufactures tag, I was very surprised that not a single pair fit. I checked online for Goodwill's return policy and was happy to see it included in store credit! But hold on- the store where I shopped gave me NO RECEIPT and said maybe the policy I quoted them was for online purchases, the store does not accept returns, "There's even a sign on the door." #ripoff #bumrap

I shop Goodwill almost everyday, back home in Arizona. They have a great return policy there, 14 days with tags attached and receipt. I'm vacationing in New England. Still love Goodwill shopping, but not to sure of return policy here. Hope the can take back the shirt (I didn't try on) and the fake Philip Lim bag. I'll use the credit while I'm here for certain.

Well when I came back home to Georgia and tried to use it they said that they do not take that kind of card. I will have to go back to Tennessee to use it. I'm out of money. If I would had known that I could not have use it when I got home, maybe I would have spent it when I was there.

We went to the store in Citrus Heights, Ca. Went back to return iclothing thinking we would get store credit. The store say no returns unless it is electronics. I showed him Goodwills policy and he stated we have our own return policy and we don't go by corporate return policy. I told him this business is a scam I will not shop at Goodwill again. It's all about making money for CEO and upper management and not to help the struggling people it portrays.

Ridiculous that goodwill sells items that are not complete in a sealed with rape box. When you find out it doesn't work the same hour you purchase they still will only give "store credit" what a racket! I will never donate to goodwill again. We have a hospice that sells and takes donations - they will be my #1 go to for donations and purchases.

The return policy stated here is reasonable except that ALL items, including electronics and defective items should be returnable within the 10 days, not just clothing. I shop Goodwill stores in many areas. Most follow the policy stated on this page, but not so with the Sacramento stores. Why are some stores exempt from the national policy guidelines?

I purchased a tote bag at the Florin Road store yesterday. When I got it home, I realized it was too big. I assumed I could return it. I happened to look at the receopt, and it said "All sales final". I was shocked, so I went online to verify the return policy which stated that clothing with the original tags attached and an original receipt could be returned within 7 days.

I went to the store with the bag that still had the price tags attached and my original receipt. I asked for a credit. The cashier told me they didn't issue credits, but she called a manager for me. The manager told me she'd make an exception this one time, so I was able to get a credit. Everyone I encountered from the staff was polite.

After issuing the credit, the store kept my original receipt despite my objections. I need the receipt for my credit card records. Most companies can duplicate a receipt or they return the original to the customer. Goodwill should also return the original receipt to the customer.

I believe that the administrative offices need to make sure policies are followed in ALL stores. I will follow up with the administrative offices regarding the inconsistency in applying the refund policy.

Shoping at Oakwood Ga. Goodwill today was going to buy a $20.00 fish tank aquarium. Before doing so i ask manager if it were to leek could i bring back for tefund. Answer was "No" buy as is.
Would'nt even offer a store credit.i asked had they checked it out to be sure it would hold water. He quickly replied "No" this person was to the point and made it clear to me and many other customers of their policy. We.now have a clearer idea of how Goodwill operates. Takes ppl donations and re-sells them for profit with no return if items turn out to be bad.
I push the cart to the side and told him i dont throw my money away on things that i could'nt be sure to work.

We purchased several items yesterday at our local store. Several of the items were bedding items. I washed the items only to pull them out of the dryer only to see the one with paint on it. Someone used it as a drop cloth when they painted. Some ppl are just plain ignorant. However the staff should have seen this before they placed it out for ppl to buy. They are just as bad.

I purchased an item on October 24th and returned it on the 27th. Because I could not find anything to exchange it for they offered me an in-store-credit of $4.49. I attempted to use it today (January 18th) and was told that I was beyond the 14 day exchange/return date. I showed them where I had returned it within 3 day so I was within policy and now have a credit = gift card. My legal states that it is illegal for gift cards/monetary credits to expire.
Can I use my credit? It's not a return, it's a credit.

the store on county line and Broadway in Colorado. By far the rudest manager I have ever meet. The woman was degrading rude and downright not a nice person. She should find s new job and stop sending so much good cheer.

Need to train your managers and workers to be more pleasant and not so hateful. I shop there and donate and I don't like being waited on or helped by hateful people.

I like to think I can trust Goodwill because of their humanitarian cause but its return policy shows a shallow interest caring for the community. You buy something there in good faith it works. If it doesn't, you're out of luck. They wont take it back. They can't test everything and I understand that but if it doesn't work, its not my fault either. Why should they profit from it. I can sell things that don't work for very low prices if the person buying it thinks it works. That's a form of theft and not good for public image at all. It doesn't hurt them to give money back on a bad item. The customer expected it to work. It didn't. Give their money back. That's being fair. I guess I will donate to The Salvation Army. And I do donate fairly often

I purchased an electronic humidity/ thermometer at the store in Palmhurst, Tx. It is battery operated. Got it home and it didn't work. Tried to return it (for store credit) and the manager said they can't do that. At the old store in Pharr they had no problem on returns. If Goodwill has changed their policies and sell you junk that you can't return (even for store credit) then they have just lost a loyal customer.

Hi,

completely agree with customers replies regarding managers and workers been rood to customers. Customers are the one who support the business, who donate merchandise. But the mean attitude from a Goodwill's personal destroys the business. It's a recycle business. It's build on free donations.
Why prices in stores keep growing? I strongly believe the Goodwill stores are for people with LOW income -that's the idea. Why the prices keep growing so fast? What... free donations became more expensive?
But what's more important why such a mean ,rude attitude from personal to clients/customers. Clients are treated like junk, shown no respect, no trust. Return merchandise is now almost illegal. Managers go and check records on cameras with NO proof Why they perform an action.Just pure discrimination of customers. Such is a disrespect to clients who support Goodwill's mission to support people with disabilities. That's only show how top management can destroy the idea of mission.

I bought a coach purse and found out it is a fake coach purse. I have not even left the store and told the manager that i wouold like to exchange it with something in the store since they will not refund my money. They are so rude to me and I just wanted to tell them that if not for my donations they will not have their jobs. My family always donates something big and small to support them but if they will rude to customers I will give my donations to salvation army or value village. this is the goodwill in jonesboro st. Mcdonough georgia.
